Inspired by stratotone's VH clips, I spent literally 10 minutes profiling the Cherry Bomb in my Kemper. I just took my input straight from the mic rather than from my mic pre (which I think would be better). I then re-recorded and mixed this clip:

Kemper Rock-n-Roll Rebel

and here is the original clip with the Cherry Bomb mic'd through a Great Rivers mic pre into my system. This is the original - NO KEMPER:

Mic'd Cherry Bomb Rock-n-Roll Rebel

They are definitely different, but I think I could come closer if I had actually spent a few seconds refining the profile and if I profiled the mic through the Great Rivers. I used no EQ on the Kemper output and I used the delay directly from the Kemper. I basically added nothing to the Kemper guitar recordings... Interesting huh? :D

I think both sounded great! What mic did you use? I found with my mic pre (Focusrite ISA 110) that it doesn't seem to do much for an SM57 or mic like that, but it freaking kills when I use it with a ribbon. Generally I just use a Focusrite saffire pro 40 since I already have mic cables run to it anyways - easier to just go from it to the kemper instead of direct, but even a direct mic to kemper profile can sound good.

Thanks for listening and commenting!

I used a 57 just slightly away from the center of the speaker, right up against the grill cloth. I think I could get these exact if I had run the mic through my Great Rivers mic pre and then to the Kemper and also if I had done the refine step which I skipped. The profile is a bit brighter and missing the warmth of the Great Rivers MP2NV. Also, I recorded and mixed two stereo tracks with delay for the rhythm panned hard right and hard left. If I had recorded two mono tracks with no delay and mixed with the delay I used in my DAW the first time, I think it would have been closer. Other than that and the shittier playing this time, they are pretty friggin' close... Not bad for literally 10 minutes work. Crazy in fact...

I think they sound awesome! I would buy Cherry Bomb profiles in a heartbeat!!

Both sound great. Great sounding amp to begin with. I'm holding out for the Kemper I phone App.

I like the miced one better. If you have them switched around, I still like the second one better. The first one has a different "grain" to it. Less vintage sounding for lack of a better word and maybe a little less twang.

Cool - no messing around - I marked them correctly and agree. Like I said, I wouldn't read too much into this yet though - this is just a first attempt. Also, I think the main ingredient that is missing is the warmth of the MP2NV preamp, which I'll profile in next time...

99% of what the mic hears, the Kemper grabs, so to speak. For some reason, some amps are a little more accurate than others, but everything is pretty dang close. I bet if you got the great river inline and refined it you'd have a tone that was pretty much indistinguishable from the recorded one.

And whether you sell them or not, you should get some Cherry Bomb profiles out there, as long as you think they represent your amp well. It gets your name out there and also there are some guys who have Kempers and still buy tube amps - and people who might hear a kemper cherry bomb clip, not have a kemper but would want to own one of your amps too. It certainly couldn't hurt.

Oh, I agree. I think I'll do a whole set from clean to full mean with different saturation settings, different mics and mic pres, etc.

Wouldn't be a bad idea. Make them sound as good as possible and let people with Kemper's be able to have the profiles.
It might make people want to check out where the profiles originated from.
I'd be interested in the Kemper some day, when it's more of a portable-type travel device.

Nice clips!

I think the difference is the digitalization of the third components fundamental signature harmonic quadratonic basis.

Of course! Goddammit you're right again !

both sound good! If you did that in 10 minutes, I'm certain with a little time you could nail the mic'd tone no problem. Question for you. How's the feel of the playing through the Kemper as compared to the amp? The same? Jut curious. But regardless of the answer - for recording it seems like a winner for sure!

Through my studio monitors it feels very much like the amp, but I have not tried power amp and cab or anything loud like gig volume. I have to say I think for live the amp will always reign supreme for loud and live.

Thanks man! The toaster I have seems pretty travel portable...

Sounds fabulous! I ordered a Matrix GT1000 FX 2u power amp today... I can't wait to try the KPA rack into my cabs. :)
