Herbert Metalcore Recording Settings

Hey,

I am going to record our bands second album at home in the near future and would like to know
if anyone of you has experience to capture a nice metalcore sound like
As I Lay Dying, Parkway Drive, All that Remains, Killswitch Engage, etc.

Would you choose channel 2+ oder 3 for that? Any EQ-tipps for recording? With or without MidCut?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the guitar, cab, room, mic, mic position, preamp etc.

There is no "fast" in finding good tone.
Using someone's settings is a good start but when recording the mic and it's position alter youre sound so much that its best to leave all dials at 12 and just start from there as soon as you have positioned youre mic. The real magic will happen when mixing youre track

I recantly got tired of micing and loud volumes so i whent with impulses.

Guitar is an Ibanez J Custom (http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/page_j ... ies_id=241) with Bareknuckle Aftermath Pickups.

Cab is a diezel fl with V30 and G12K100 in X-pattern and mic is a shure sm 57.

Would you use Channel 2+ oder 3 for the mentioned tones?

I would go channel 2+ for rythem and maybe lead also, mid cut posibal depending on the other instruments and their range. I like to use the mid cut but with a lower setting than others, lever around 12 and sensitivety at 9 or lower. This wil give a loser feel but its crushing!

I dont have any experiance with the aftermath, i used to have a warpig but didnt like it with the Herbert

Put rest of dials @12 o clock (watch out now the master volume )
I like the channel volume of channel 2 around 1 o clock, i have less compression and a more open tone this way(mixing and mastering will add compression later)
Move the mic around till you have a sound almost as identical as what you get when in front of the speaker
adjust the eq to youre liking
Hit RECORD in youre DAW

Yeah i know

reading alot of forums
doing alot of tutorials

I actually learned alot on the andy sneap forum on ultimatemetal.com (verry helpfull guys there and use the search function) and youtube was one of my best friends

Here i record in the same room where the amp is so its hard to record miced, so for now its impulses, i do have plans to build a iso box, a big one so the cab and speakers can breath, but it will cost time

BTW i just posted ''New track all Diezel Herbert'' it has a clip where i used impulses. With impulses you can get the tone youre after but its always best to mic whenever posible. I would love to hear youre comments (good and BAD) on the work.

Also its always good to have someone come with the same taste to comment on youre tone before or when recording
