Hi Peter.

I recently bought a Herbert amp, and i think its the best amp in the whole world, its a little expensive amp? yes, but hey its for a life time, but in the past weeks start to make a noise like static or hum or something, this noise its in the 3 channels, but in channel 1 its more than in channel 2 or 3, and when i change channel from 2 or 3 to 1 make a horrible and loud pop noise but its only when i change to channel 1 or from channel 1, i dont kwon if this is normal but i dont think so, but make the reverb and delay in the serial loop pops too; another think that i can notice its the volume in the channel 1 its superior than channel 2 or 3, is this normal??? if i have the channel 1 at 9 o'clock i have turn up the channel 2 or 3 to 11 o'clock to match the levels.

Sorry for all the trouble, but i hope can you help me, whit some advice, maybe need a tube change, or do you think its another thing??? im in mexico city and i dont want ruin my precios amp.

By the way, can you tell me which year and who make my amp??? the serial number is 001/982.

Thanks for all.

Hello ,

the popping problems most likely derive from bad preamp tubes. If you bought the Herbert used the previous owner might never have changed those. I always advice people to fully retube a used amp if the seller had not done it just prior to the sale. Just to get a fresh start with optimal tonality and no tube related problems.

If you don't know how old your power tubes are I would replace them as well at the same time, rebias and you should be good to go.

I've got Herbert tube sets available (burned in and tested).

Kind regards,

Jens Kruse

Thanks a lot Jens, in deed, was the V4 the bad tube, i change that tube, and the noise stop, also the pop when change channel its less.

Another question, you send to Mexico City????

Yes, we have customers in Mexico City and have sent tubes to them in the past.
