Wasn't there someone here on the forum that had a Herbert for that price also? Now a VH4 for that price would be killer.

I tried to sell my Herbert on here last year for $2200 and there were tire kickers galore...sad

I sold a Mk2 at $2350 last August and so did another member after me. That's the going rate as far as I'm concerned. If you actually want to get it sold that is. Lol

I would buy EngineeringtheEnemy's one with the Kruse Kontrol mods before that one personally.

And Jim Marshall wouldn't have approved your Fortin modded Marshall either .

Dang wish I could afford a 2nd one. Got mine for $2700. 2008 model with external bias.

Why is it there are a lot more Herberts than VH4's for sale? I might have to jump on one of these. Which one is best with mod, without mod?

I wouldn't . Peter Diezel has publicly said he doesn't approve of any Kruse Kontrol mods.

The VH4 I had modded was the best amp I ever played FWIW.

Bought an Einstein used that had the mod already and I love it ..bought a stock Herbert and I did not dig it as much I ended up getting the mod done and it sounds killer plus it's stock when rolled back..the variac is nice too keeps things a bit cooler than running full blast.

I'm seriously in shook that engineeringtheenemy's herbert isn't sold. Amazing price and everywhere I read, the mod can be turned off. Why not have more tonal options????

Well for me it was the mods and the uncertainty about if something on that amp goes wrong......who do you take it to Kruse, who may not be able to get parts from Diezel at this point or to Diezel, who will say the amp is broken because of the mods. I am reconsidering on buying that Herbert but that is the reason I haven't bought it yet and maybe the reason others have not either.

Get a Dmoll, crushes like the Herbert, less loot

I understand where you are coming from but don't understand how Kruse couldn't fix something IF it went wrong. I just think its an amazing price, legendary amp, with extra options so why not. I seen his clips too and sounds great. I have not seen a bad post about the mod's but only guys that are anti modding guys. I could be silly in thinking that if something was going to go wrong with it, it would have already happened and that if something does go wrong down the line, it's either tubes or user error. I have way too many amps or I would be all over it. I actually thought about pulling the trigger but can't do to life things.

I think it's kind of akin to dating... When you know a potential betty's had some modifications - that albeit may be to your liking and inevitably would have been undertaken by you - that weren't your doing, she suddenly seems "used" and "scarred". Second hand goods. Damaged.

Weird perspective, but that's my guess. There's a level of pristineness we all seek in a used bit of kit. Hence the "minty" and "like new" sales surpassing the "toured, gigged and used in a heavy smoking, drinking environment - played loudly all the time, and yes, there are marks on the tolex from cigarettes and rock glasses of varied liquors on the topside of the head".

of course. what amp builder would be in favor of mods? if they were, they would just incorporate the mod into the amp design and call it version 2.
