Cool guys! Thanks for the advice. I think that the BE, C45, and Sat Switch will work great. I am not really that big of a Metallica guy these days. I used to be back in high school and college... but I have grown out of that stage. Can the BE w/ Sat switch do a convincing Alice N Chains tone?
Why not add the Cantrell mod to the mix if you like tones like JC? I am having Dave add that to my BE/C45 with saturation and fat switches. I love the amp, but had a minor issue with the C45 which Dave is fixing, so I figured why not have him add the mod since it was out his way

Thanks for the advice guys! Yeah, I think the BE w/ Sat Switch, and the C45 will be good enough for what I am wanting to do! My funds are limited these days, so I will just have to make due with that. Plus; as they say, less is more! ;)

Did I hear someone say at one point that the C45 is a little more gain then the BE? And its thicker?

YES!

Dude, you're right in everyway. C45 is thicker with a little more gain and less is more.

Yeah, I don't need to load this amp up. I like to keep things a little simpler. The HBE sounds cool... but I will have to pass for now. I like the clips that I have heard of the BE and C45 better. Sounds thicker from what I have heard and what people have told me. I just need the amp to be THE BEST MARSHALL sounding amp that I can get. I am not kidding you guys, the Mojave has bugged the living heck out of me since I got it brand new in 2003. When I had it modded with the Jose Mod.. the guy screwed it up.. horribly bad. It sounds terrible! Too much bass, and not enough gain. Dave will get me all fixed up! ;)

I am sure you'll be pleased with what Dave does to your Mojave. I think you are doing the right thing by going about the mods the way you are. The HBE is cool, but for the tones you want, totally unnecessary.

I've posted this same thing many times. When playing on the HBE, I always found myself turning the gain down to an amount where I could get the same tone out of the BE so what's the point?

i agree! the higher the gain does not = the better the tone ;) ..............after getting my 1st KS modded friedman amp,i figured i'd be playing the HBE more than any other mode...but then after a short period of time,i realized that the sweetest sounds to my ears was in the BE mode.super ultra-high gain is fun to play with for a while, but i'm still a firm believer that the med-high gain levels hold the "key" to the best tones out there  ...just my 16 cents.

I'm in agreement with everything said above...I think your Mojave is going to sound unreal. Will it have that power scaling thingy on it or can that be disconnected?

I want to add that these mods Dave does also may vary just a bit depending on the amp. Meaning the mods are probably the same but the amps being soo different there has to be a variance somehow in the tones.
I have a 1982 JCM-800 marshall 2203 100 watter Dave did. It sounds Unfreaking real. Just incredible and the C-45 mod on that amp is aggresive yet sweet.
If Slash ever gets ahold of an amp like mine and plays the C-45 mod....It's all over with for his azz..  Just a thought for the thread.

The power dampening was removed by the guy that modded the amp last. I had the Jose Mod done... but it was done not so well! I think its going to sound unreal also. I am excited to get it back!

Cool, I actually sold one of my Soldano's and found another quality foundation amp (roccaforte 100 watt) for my second mod. I'm sure there will be differences with different amps in the power section depending on the type of filtering etc; but I'm thinking as long as the amp is in the marshall vein they should all sound similar. My Reinhardt is a plexi clone with Heyboer tranny's and it sounds just like the marsha vids on youtube. The Rocca will have mercury magnetics- both amps use EL34's in the power section. The brown eye with the C45 and low gain humbuckers = Slash appetite tones for sure!

The cool thing about the kitchen sink is the options it opens up. The amp I have is very usable from bedroom level to full out rock. I have never had a 100 watt amp that was as tame as this one is. I am not sure what Dave does to get it like this but I can practice at 5am and sound good without waking any one and play any gig and sound great. If my amp is typical of the quality of Dave's work, I can't imagine anyone not being satisfied with an amp he mods. I am digging the HBE but I am a metalhead. For BE, think VHI or II. The C-45 is on all the time, saturation goes on and off depending on my mood.

I see you're still diggin' it huh Mike? I guess it was worth the drive.

I would still get the HBE with your mod work, it sounds really good with the gain turned down to around 10:00 and the Master up a ways... The 'KS' mod is cool since it has different characteristics just between the switch/input selections and it's all VERY responsive to the Gain setting. I still can't decide which one I like best. I keep changing my mind at each gig.... But one thing, though: I keep edging the Gain down a hair on each mode or input when I'm playing it loud. You don't need the Gain dimed to get great sustain or chunk.

Funny, but my C45 switch works with the HBE input/mode and I think Dave told me it really wasn't intended to do that very well.... It's CRAZY TRAIN gain in that mode and I don't really run that config live, but in my jam room, it's purty cool! One thing ALL of the KS mods do VERY well is clean-up with the gtr vol pot! It's amazing how it both cleans up and gets BRIGHTER with the volume rolled off! Amazing shit!

Well, I would just get the HBE... but its more of a cost thing for me. I may decide to get it when Dave starts working on it. Its going to depend on the price. If he needs to swap the OT I am not going to get it!

HBE is great to have,no doubt, but stick with your orig plan, since limited funds & all..."BE mod & Sat switch" to keep the expenditure down.you'll get the MOST,for the LEAST,out of this combo...period! ;)
