If I were to judge the stock Metro-Friedman vs Cameron modified via these clips, I would have to agree with Dan. I wouldn't say Mark "ruined the amp", since I haven't seen the interior of it, but the stock M-F tone sounds much better to my ears. Mark Cameron prefers a butt-load of preamp distortion vs. us older folks who prefer power-tube distortion. It's all about what YOU like.charveldan":rw5s1f23 said:

If I were Friedman, I'd be asking Charvedan to stop posting threads about my amps. Don't want a guy like that associated with your brand. I know a certain tube vendor already did that.

It looks like Mark installed pre-EQ MV w/diode-clipping in this particular amplifier. It also looks like he decreased the V1b cathode resistor value (changed to metal-film) to increase 2nd stage gain, and used a radial .68uf (or possibly a 1uf) cathode bypass to target bass frequency gain. When making modifications for gain at V1a/b, it's best to use axial type electrolytic capacitors, and suspend them off the surface of the resistors... This keeps the electrolytic capacitors nice and cool!

I guess if the owner likes it, that's all that matters. Why anyone in the year 2014 would purchase a $3200.00 NMV amplifier, and then convert it to a MV is beyond comprehension.

I don't think I can recall ever seeing a thread about any Cameron Marshall going down but that goop is disturbing. The 4 that I've had here had some type of paint over the values but not gooped. I'm sure Mark C has gone away from the goop and uses this way of hiding his circuits. The Golub lead mod I had was painted too. BTW I still think Cameron modded Marshalls are the best modded Marshall tone available. Anyone got a problem with that? PM me...
