It's 5 degrees outside right now, so it won't be a problem for me for a while, but I appreciate the sentiment.

It snowed here today (Atlanta, GA burbs). First snow this winter. Wasn't really thinking about riding :D

But thanks.

Don't tempt me...

Rode nothing but bikes 'til I was 22. Two really bad accidents later haven't been on a bike since. Though I have been thinking really hard about the new V-Rod lately.

I live in Southern Ohio. Chomping at the bit

I feel your pain!
I've been jonesin' big time to ride, but Northern Ohio winters are not exactly condusive to it.
...From last summer

Hung my helmut up when the kids came, have to admit I miss it though.

I was driving into work last week, drizzling and 27*, and there was a dude in jeans and jacket riding his harley in. I immediately thought two things...

1. That dude is cold.
2. And he really needs to get somewhere.

I love riding but that's just a little nuts.

The source of this thread was some serious bummer news I got about an old friend. Guy I grew up with in Hawaii and who was the person that basically got me started playing guitars, Danny Mourning. He was in a band called Blitzkrieg that played with billybogners old band a bunch. Super experienced rider, high speed former Moto GP racer and motocross guy. Got killed in a wreck over the weekend in LA. I have no details about how it occured, if an auto was involved or what - but I know he was a serious limit pusher. Wife and couple of kids, just the nicest guy you could ever meet. The term "full of aloha" was meant for Danny.

I had a bunch of old band photos of him playing at my house that I had been meaning to get scanned and send to him, but put it off - you know there's always tomorow.

So yeah, bike guys be careful out there. Also, if you've got an old friend you've been meaning to track down, do it today if possible. Life is way too fucking short. and go out and get that guitar and amp you've always wanted - ENJOY IT NOW

I know where your coming from. I am a lifelong rider and would consider myself experienced although in no way an expert. I have lost friends to motorcycle accidents. I have had a couple close calls myself. It's a sad fact that doing such an enjoyable and freeing thing can get you killed or seriously injured. But, I take every opportunity to do it. I have a wife and 2 kids, and I choose to still ride because I love it and it's part of who I am.
Sounds like your friend was the same, he loved it. To my way of thinking, for me, If I have to go, I'd like to go doing something I love.

Sorry about your loss.

I guess I'm glad playing guitar is not very dangerous....If it was I'd really be on borrowed time! :D

Speaking of Hawaii, I live on Oahu and there has been some hellacious accidents here lately. 2 of them did involve bikes. One was on the freeway near kahala mall where a military guy lost it on a crotch rocket and his the median and bounced of "at 100mph or so", he died. Another about 6 months ago where a guy was speeding near nimitz hwy on a sportbike too and he broadsided a car so hard that he killed the driver and himself and FLIPPED THE CAR that he hit. Sorry to hear about your friend man.

Sorry about your friend but i ride and that is a chance we take just like getting in our car every day and going to work you just never know whats around the bin

Yeah tell me about it, 2 years ago I was on my Heritage at a stop sign (T intersection) some bitch comes over the yellow line while on her fuckin cell phone and nails me broadside. I saw her coming and was at least able to get my leg out of the way or else I would not have it today. I went 30 feel from the point of impact and she dragged my harley 20 feet under her car in the other direction. I was out for only a few seconds while air born, she gets out of her car and screams are you OK. I tell her hold on and lets see if I can get up, I was able to get up she than said oh my god I have to call the cops, you should have seen her face when I told her I "was the cops". This all happened 300 yards from my house. I had to push the harley home with some help. Bike totaled out got every penny I had into it, $32,000 in total. Got myself a new Street Glide and went through it, kind of the same idea as a gear whore chasing the elusive tone, the heroin addict chasing the dragon, so and an so forth.

Word to the wise make sure you have at least a leather jacket and a DOT approved helmet. Not that I did that day. Leather jacket, yes but my DOT UNapproved skull cap is a mandatory item while in Mass. I loose it at the borders of RI and NH though. I also ride the Harley for my Department during the summer months so I've been to school to learn how to dump a bike, fulcrum points and all that jazz. State police training might have saved my life. Anyway stay safe out there, it's usually not us its THEM. Ride cautiously.
