Looks like so much fun...

Ah yes, Canyon Carving. Great fun and a total rush. I don't ride that kind of bike anymore, but I take a trip twice a year to Deals Gap. 313 turns in 11 miles. So much fun. I know what your friend was experiencing when he rode. It's such a shame that happened to him.

I'd love to take a trip to ride the dragon. As it is there's plenty of curves here if I look for them.

I was driving into work last week, drizzling and 27*, and there was a dude in jeans and jacket riding his harley in. I immediately thought two things...

1. That dude is cold.
2. And he really needs to get somewhere.

I love riding but that's just a little nuts.

That reminds me of a guy here...I would guess that he rides probably 300+ days a year and this is NW Nebraska, almost South Dakota...Plus this dudes works shifts and sometimes takes off at 11pm when is freezin ass cold out!

Sorry man, I posted before you explained what happened to your friend, thats terrible. no disrespect meant - Jim

No apologies necessary man, in a wierd way Braddah Danny might agree ;) Here's a couple of shots of him before he discovered going too fast on a street bike :

I guess my own take on this is that anybody can go at any time...I personally am more comfortable sitting on a surfboard in total victory at sea conditions that I am driving on the freeway - I have a bit more control over what is going on. As far as the bikes go, I'll be honest - street bikes plain scare me. I love the go fast stuff but there are too many variables and more than likely it will be somebody else that causes a problem. The dirt bikes have always been a bigger attraction and even then I've just kept it to pedaling and mountain bikes. I support and envy those that jump on them on the roads, but I suffer from a true lack of sack when it comes to riding motorcycles on the highway.

I hear ya bro! that looks like 90-91? I've had quite a few (11) friends killed on street bikes. Has never entered my mind to ride on pavement. Been riding MX since 72, still ride when the weathers good. Thought about mountian bikes for some cross-training, but I'm just not in good enough shape to pull that off. That and my knees are toast from motocross. :D

No more motorcycles for me. Too many idiots on the road...even a little accident on a motorcycle is bad. I have rode since I was a little kid and know them like the back of my hand...and I still wont take a chance. ;)

+1

I was referring the picture of the Yamaha Raider in the post above.

I rode all of my life until the fall of 04 when a close buddy of mine got killed. I was the last guy to see him alive( besides the girl riding on the back of his bike and got killed also). I put the Bike away the very next day for a year and then sold it, I had lost the desire. I had a Honda CBR1100xx Blackbird with a Mr Turbo kit that was ridiculously fast but the truth is that I had started losing my taste for crazy speed years before. Every year, my tolerance for high speed got less and less and it got to the point where I rarely did over 80-85. When I found out that I was going to be a dad, I sold the bike.

I still think about riding alot but While I love sport bikes, Im much more into Cruisers now. Eventually when I move back out to Long Island, I would definitely consider buying something and it would be cool to have a sports bike along with the cruiser. for now though, Living in NYC, I have no desire to have a bike and the hassles that go with it...

sorry to hear about your friend Steve but people who push the envelope are bound to get bit in the ass, it happened to me BAD!!! Im pretty lucky to be walking , let along alive..
