Initially, when the first one in town opened, it was literal chaos. It was the only one in the area and people from MA, CT, NY plus others would come in droves. Literal droves. Like everyday needed traffic control and police officers watching the hour long lines to get in.
Cut to a few years later and we now have 7 dispensaries just in town, with a population of barely 6,000. We have more dispensaries than gas stations.
But anyways because of that, it’s like zombie land in town. So many people baked driving around and walking around. I’m not against people getting high, but just cause it’s legal doesn’t mean you should be wrecked out in public and certainly not driving around.
Its also is taking up real estate that companies who would be useful to the town could have used.
And our cut in taxes from it is miniscule.
So I guess I should say that basically, it made our town a tourist attraction to come get baked in, wander around town then go back home.
I imagine a few more years from now when neighboring states legalize it, most of the dispensaries in town will go under, but at the moment it’s total overkill.
On the plus side though, they are one of the few places that pay a livable wage though, so I will give them that
