Hello! this is my first post here. I usually hang out on HRI which i love but just stumbled upon this place which seems pretty cool as well!

So far i use the mesas (mark V's) which i love BUT...

I have been recently interested in getting my hands on a nice used Herbert. Dont have the money yet but will pretty soon! Do you guys have any advice? How much is a fair price? Watching on ebay right now. It would be good if i can find one with the extrenal bias pot but other than that i have heard that there is not much difference between these couple of revisions, excpet for the tubes that they were sold with.

Thanks and talk to you later i guess!

Spend a couple days leafing through the IMMENSE number of quality posts here on RT, specifically Diezel, and you'll get all the info you need - and more!!

The Herbert is a beast...be forewarned.

Welcome aboard!
V.

Welcome man... your doing OK with the Mark V, (It's the only amp I still want to own after going Diezel) but be forewarned... once you dive into the world of Diezel not much else seems good enough!!!

Welcome. The herby is a monster but it is very versitile.

Thanks all!! I appreciate your kind welcoming!! My girlfriend called and woke up me up today, i was dreaming about the Herbert lol hahaha And now your posts have increased the GAS even more!

I will research the forum for info on prices and tubes as well (especially with so many options to choose from) and hopefully will join the family soon!

Meanwhile if any of you has some band recordings with the Diezel please share! :gethim:

;) !

One thing.... Be careful of that Pauly fellow

Sorry man, had to :poke:

Peace, Love AND MAJOR ASSKICKING WATTAGE!!!!

Thanks man! should get the money really soon, till then crossing my fingers hoping to find a nice one somwhere..!

Figure right around $3K for a good used Herbert. Don't know what a beat one would go for as I've never seen a Diezel amp in rough shape for sale. If you buy a Herbert for under $3K, you are doing good, much over that and you would probably be paying a tad too much, unless it had special circumstances like brand new tubes or a footswitch....

Yes that is the price range i am looking for, hope it doesnt take too much time to find one!

Do you happen to live real close to a big city? You can pretty much guarantee you'll never see a Herbert on a small town Craigslist, but in the big city CL's, something is bound to pop up EVENTUALLY. I live somewhat close to San Francisco, and nearly every piece of gear I have has come out of the SF area and the suburbs around the bay.

You can find one on Ebay, but forking over $3K on Ebay makes me nervous. I'm sure one will pop here in the Classifieds also, but... there is nothing like finding stuff on CL and being able to see/touch before you buy.

Thanks for the advice man! unfortunatelly this wont work because i live in Lebanon but i dont buy directly because sellers usually only sell within the US. So the way i do it is UPS buys it for me with their paypal account and it is shipped to their business address in New York as well so the seller doesnt even have to ship it outside the US. This service is called "netshopper". Or another similar solution i talk to a buddy (pappysmusic) who buys it for me in the US and i pay him in return for a fee.

That way i buy all my gear from the US with no probelm.

One question though: i was surprised about what you said. I thought ebay would be safer than buying through a forum, which is why thats mainly what i have been watching. I buy a lot of gear from HRI forum but never around $3000 because that makes me really nervous. What do you think i should do?

Theres a Herbert on ebay right now but its for $4000 and its new. Thats more than i can afford. Im looking at the 3000 range.

Thanks!

It all depends on who it is on a forum that is selling said item. If you spend much time on a forum, you kind of figure out who the "regulars" are and it's likely somewhat safe within that group. Ebay probably is truely safer since they are "guaranteeing" a certain amount of buyer protection. But there was a guy that posted up similar to your thread a few months ago talking about how he bought a Herbert on Ebay and got scammed. Sent the money over and never heard back.

If you don't live in the US or certain countries in Europe, then I guess you just have to be willing to take a chance, if there is no way to find something locally.

Craigslist is not exactly super safe either. Many times, with a bunch of cash in my pocked, going to a seller's house I've thought "sure hope this guy doesn't plan to pull a gun on me and rob my cash." Same thing with being the seller, "sure hope this guy isn't coming over to rob my house......" Nothing is safer than buying new at a dealer.

You'll have to decide on the best source for a Herbert, for your situation.

thanks man i hear what youre saying. Youre right when it comes to big amounts like that its safer to get from the dealer which i usually do, but in this case unfortunately i wish i could afford a new one

Didnt the guy who bought from ebay get his money back? I certainly hope i dont get *&^% with the Herbert! i guess my best bet would be the bay with someone with a good feedback. otherwise i wouldve jumped on that one from the jemsite..

Thanks man!

Hey guys i found one but it has the internal bias point. My questions are:

- will the sound differ from the newer revision? Has anything been alterned to your knowledge besides the more practical biasing?

- WIth the bias pot inside will it be too difficult to bias the amp? to be honest all i have owned till now are mesas and with the fixed bias i dont any have experience with biasing..

thanks!
