Hi RTers. I've lurked for some time before joining and I haven't posted much since but after some observation.. I think this forum has some pretty serious gear knowledge..so I've decided to start contributing my lack thereof knowledge ;)

I recently purchased the demo Cherry Bomb that Steve had for sale...and I have to say that I am more excited for this piece of gear to show up than anything I have ever purchased. I spoke w/ him before buying and talked about tone, the 80s, current music scene..etc. There are so many builders out there at the moment.. it's hard to narrow it down to what you want to go with.

Currently I gig in two local bands and I have been using an EVH 5153 combo. I love the amp.. it's pretty good at conquering a wide array of tones. However, I cut my teeth on older Marshall amps and even owned a Quick Rod at one point. I've found myself just less than satisfied with the 5153 and I think I've narrowed it down to the fact that everything sounds very compressed. The second/blue channel is where I spend a great majority of my time. It's a great sounding channel but I personally thing after spending a year gigging it that it is a bit too compressed and doesn't deliver quite what I am looking for. It cleans up some...but it doesn't clean up the way I want it to. At the end of the day... I am a huge EVH fan and I much prefer his older tones than his later ones/modern ones.

Thus... the reason I decided to try the Cherry Bomb. The clips out there sound unreal..and it sounds like what I wanted the splawn to sound like but didn't quite sound like (if that makes any sense). The plex channel's ability to clean up is exactly what I want. To be able to go from Guns n Roses slightly dirty clean to ACDC to brown territory is what I hear from it...and then add in the second channels lead tones and I arrived at my decision!

What will be interesting.. is I am planning on first trying it into a mesa cab clone live. A local player here has some of the best tones I have ever heard and he uses a PRS amp into a cab clone. I'll dig up some clips of him... you'd be lying if you said you could hear a difference between it and a real cab (just my 2 cents). If I am unsatisfied... I have a few cabs I can bring to the show :)

I will post pics ASAP and clips as well. I haven't really seen any videos of a cherry bomb live in a band mix... so hopefully I can add some for those that are interested.

Either way.. Steve was great to deal with...and I can't imagine myself being disappointed when it shows up Wednesday.

Congrats. I love the clips I've heard from that amp. I hope you dig it.

Yeah! Congrats on the Cherry Bomb! This is the first I've heard of the Mesa cab clone. Is there any light you can shed on it? What exactly are we looking at here?

Congrats man. Steve is a hell of a nice guy and builds solid amps. Plus he's accessible!

Hope you love the Cherry Bomb . I contacted Steve on it but never pulled the trigger .

Awesome! I've wanted to try one of Steve's amps since the development stage.

Love me some Cherry Bomb!

Congrats on getting a great amp!

I've heard good things about it recording but until recently had not heard a guitarist using it live. Amp-cab clone-xlr to front of house. His tone was absolutely amazing and just nailed some VH brown tones. I am going to try the same setup w/ the cherry bomb since my bands use in-ear monitors.

The amp showed up yesterday...and holy freakin' smokes. It *rips*. The reason I am hoping the cab clone sounds good is so I can have the master turned up louder than I normally would for smaller clubs/bars...because this thing sounds unreal once the master gets up around 10:00 +.

I will post a full review soon and some pics (and hopefully clips). I just moved into a new house as well as had my first kid 4 months ago...so this is chaos!

One thing I immediately wanted to tinker with but don't have any other available are different speakers. I hooked it up to a 1960BV cab. Sounds great through the v30s but saw that Steve's cabs come with G12H 70th anniversary speakers. I am wondering if those are a better choice for the amp. V30s sound great though!

Biggest reason I bought this amp was I wanted a channel that can go from pretty damn clean to brown w/ just the volume knob being moved on the guitar...and it delivers!

congrats!! I am glad someone bought that amp, hahaha, I don't need it but certainly was tempted. very awesome amp!!!
