High Gain Amp Shootout!

Great comparison, first time I listened they were pretty close but the second and third time I heard the differences well. I'm surprised that 5150 sounded dark like that, may need a tune up as they usually record great.
I preferred the Mesa and the 2203 at the end. I just don't care for the sound of the diezel stuff although I know there are great amps just not for me.
Thanks for making it and posting, Nice job and cool rythym!

For this track I preferred the boosted amps. They all had size and bite, the latter of which was missing from the unboosted amps. For the unboosted, the Orange was my favorite just edging out the Mesa (needed that extra bite). The Peavey was kinda boring and I didn't care for the VH4 at all.

Pretty much agree with all of this, except I did think the Peavey sounded pretty good. If I listened to this "blind" I would have never guessed which one was the Diezel. It sounded tinny and thin compared to the others.

Thank you for the shootout. What amp and cab was used for the intro of this video? Especially for the cleanish sound that plays the first chord is very tasty.

Same exact cab, but I used a mix of my Marshall JMP and my Axe FX ultra for the cleans at the clip in the beginning.

I guess im no the only one that thinks they sounded almost indistinguishable. No pc speakers Jbl l100's here

I don't think you're the only one (someone else already made the same comment) but I'm not using anything fancy, just a decent set of computer speakers (Harmon Karmon sound cube) and while some of them were similar, there were distinct differences between most to my ears.

all sound the same, just buy the one that costs less...most ears beyond this board can't tell the difference.

Put your ear closer to the laptop speaker.

put a wizard mcII in there and I will.

:D

That was pretty cool! It's great when guys take the time to do some pro sounding stuff like this. A lot of us don't have the access/ability to do this kind of stuff.

It seemed like, the more times I listened, the more different they each sounded to my ears. All were good though. The peavey was the most different sounding -- kind of on the dark side. I liked the Friedman modded Marshall and the VH4 the best.

marshalls were it for me
all of em
hard to beat the og

nice shootout,I'd take any of those amps.ThanKS for posting it,the 2 best I thought were mesa and the vh4,seem to shine with the voicings of the guitar being used.they all sounded good, the 5150 was thick but cloudy sounding, the marshalls thinish but clear..tunning used?

Thank you for posting, I like the VH4 and Marshalls.
I dig your band too, cool riffs.

Thanks for the shootout! I was really impressed by the "small" soldano, sounded great to me and not at all like it only has a small power stage. The marshalls were awesome too.
Great tune as well!

Very nicely done!

However, you're missing in your guitar amp lineup the guitar amp King of all tone (any gain value/structure), the Diezel Herbert.

Thanks again guys! If I had more amps, I'd include them
I'm actually selling the Vh4. I just can't afford it at the moment.

Great shootout! That Freidman Marshall is crankin! The rest sound just as awesome

I'm really liking the boosted amps myself. That JCM800 towards the end is tasty!

Hey Cam!!!!!

You know which one i prefer. The Diezel  !

I don't think the Peavey really sounded bad, it was just bland compared to the others. 100% agree with you on the Diezel. I really, really want to like them, but they aren't my cup o' tea it seems.

Excellent shootout, I really enjoyed the JMP 2204 and of course the 5150, it just has this darker tone to it which I really dig. I would love to hear a lossless version of this. Youtube sounds great, no doubt, but to hear it before all the compression they do would be awesome.
