High master volume causing non-microphonic vibrations in power tubes

Has anyone noticed this? I noticed it more once I got my power station, and was able to turn master volumes up high, without my ears bleeding

But essentially, above a certain point, I notice a rattling sound coming from the power section. I’ve noticed this with 6505, Uber ultra, and Herbert.

To be clear, these are not microphonic tubes. And the sound of the vibrations and rattling do not get amplified and come out of the speaker

I only hear it because my ears are a few feet from the amp head as they’re cranked to hell.

It’s also not the result of any mechanical coupling to anything in the room that vibrates. It’s not the result of vibrations from the pressure waves of sound

It only happens when the master volume or post gain goes above a certain level, as if it depends on the amplitude of the signal in the power section

Has anyone noticed this? My gut tells me it’s normal, but ?‍♂️

Welcome to R-T
There are some smart folks here that will know more.
I've only noticed this with my Splawn.
Caused the tube retainers to rattle so I clipped them off
Are your amp heads on top of cabinets when this happens?
I'm assuming no. Good luck mang!

No, they’re not. I’ve tried securing the tubes, and the rattling still happens. I’ve even placed the amp heads in another room, away from the cab, completely decoupled from acoustic/mechanical vibrations

That's the transformer!

Perfectly normal.

I hear my amps do that all the time when I crank them and run them into a load or distantly mic'd cab. Of course, it happens any time you crank a tube amp, but usually you don't hear it due to the transformer being drowned out by the blasting cab the amp is sitting on.

Learn somethin new every day, man. The sound was emanating from what sounded like the transformer, in all 3 amps, so I even checked to see that they’re properly secured, which they were

Interesting to know… thanks
