Whats the general thought on these?

I wen't out and played a '74 Dr103. I'm gassing insanely today. On the boarder to go and buy it. Very articulate open and just pure quality tones!

I have no use for it, so all I need now is the smallest excuse to go and pick it up. It's 1400USD, and it's in great shape with new tubes.

I hate GAS

i have one from '76 dr103, great all purpose high headroom amps, awesome pedal platform

price is decent, in the future the prices will go up no doubt as well

No need for reeves when shopping vintage...

Yeah I guess it's an amp then you can use for just about anything you need a clean high headroom for.

the one i tried yesterday was so goddamn loud that when cracking to output stage overdrive, it literally made the house and windows rattle to the point you thought shit was gonna break. Louder than my marshall.. it's insane. For me it sound more articulate that a standard vintage 1959, but less smooth and a bit sharper.

Had a DR103 for a little bit on loan. Incredible sounding amp and louder than most Super Lead's in my opinion.

As someone said above; great pedal platform. The issue for me is not how loud it gets, but how long it takes for breakup. It goes from 1-8 completely clean then at 9 some hair appears.

Very round and tight. Total opposite of a Plexi. Takes anything you throw at it and it fits a little more nicely into the niche market it is in. If you're a David Gilmour fan, it's a huge part of his set up.

Clean headroom is the biggest thing here. Some sort of Fuzz/O.D up front with the volume on 4 and your sound is monolithic.

Ok, i'm gonna pull the trigger on that head. In any case if I don't like it, it will keep it's value. I bet however i'm gonna like it allot.

Let us know how it turns out. The gilmourish tones alone make it worth it!

Very cool. I have a DR/SLO hybrid that I love. That got me to try a real DR and they are amazing. But just too loud for me. But an amazing amp. Hope you dig it. :)

If you're going for the vintage piece then that amp is awesome. If you wanted some driven Hiwatt tones and still have hearing left check out the Catalinbread RAH pedal.

When I was pretty young and just taking up guitar and jamming, my buddy's (he picked up drums) sister was dating a dude in a pretty popular band. The band used my buddy's house as a jam space, so we had access to all the goods. This particular individual drove his hiwatt with a vintage SG and a couple stomps. It was awesome. I got to play that head and cab for a couple years as a yoot!! And I always remember how cool it was, and especially how cool it sounded with this well professed guitarist making it 'happen' with his SG.

Hiwatts will always be fond to me. Back then too?? P2P wiring, all top grade.

Get it!!

Didn't Mr. Fryette base his early designs on Hiwatts?

I have owned a few Hiwatt's great amps. My Sig-X & Deliverance 120 very much have some Hiwatt flavor.

Yesssss!! Som it was newvintageampday today.
I dragged king watt home after a nice tryout in the former owner rehearsal and a good long chat over coffee with stories from the seven seas telling about where the amp has been. Quite a travel. The thing sounds INSANE. It can punch a hole in the wall.

Anyway here it is back home.

30 mins wen't by and all of a sudden I had the scenery.. and the the room was filled with smoke. Mass 200 dead on the spot, too much for it to handle, even tho I was playing rather loud the the 4x12 haha.

I guess i'm gonna take that Weber back to the store and have it looked at.

Here's a small sample..
I apologize in advance for probably the most crappy sample but it was all I had patience for right now ;)

I run this Maxon RTD800 up front to push the preamp and add a bit of it's own gain. Vol set hi, overdrive set low.

I play in a doom metal band.. we don't tune down this much normally tho.
We play canndlemass, Solstice, Trouble school.. if we absolutely have to categorize.

Smoked the Mass .... yikes.
.... I have melted a few things myself over the years.

Congratulations on the Hiwatt .... a little jealous. :)

I thought the demo sounded alright .... nice harmonics...

Ill turn down the presence a bit... bit picky.

Any suggestions apart from the mass 200? :)

I have been using a THD Hot Plate for over a decade & never had a problem....might be a simple problem with the Mass....
