This is a reply on Craigslist I got from my ad from my Tyler:

I got your response. Well, I have read through your ad and from what I have seen,it is priced favorably compared to others so I want you to consider it sold to me because I am ready to offer you the demanded price. I am Tech Sgt Mark Jones(Military) currently on duty serving the country. Presently I am out of town on duty in a remote area until November 10. We have a bad and fluctuating network here otherwise I would have called you and seal the deal on phone. At the moment, email and text messages works best for me.

Nevertheless,I am ready to seal the deal right away and pay you via my PayPal account that is attached to my bank account as it is the only secure form of payment that I have access to right now. So,kindly get back to me with your FULL NAME AND PAYPAL EMAIL ADDRESS so that I can initiate the payment immediately. If you don't have a paypal account, it is absolutely free to set one up, kindly visit www.paypal.com. A shipper will be hired that will come for the pick up upon the completion of the payment aspect of the transaction.Let me have the requested details to proceed with the payment if we have a deal.

Sincerely,
Mark.

I wouldn't do it man, unless the guy has references...but it totally does read like a scam.

Its also super easy for a buyer to scam a seller via paypal.

If they pay with gift but fund the transaction with a credit card they can still do a CC chargeback.

"Dear Tech Sgt Mark: SIR, I'm just trying to sell a guitar on Craigslist, SIR."

known method of scamming, i've dealt with these "military people" on several things i've put on craigslist

doing nothing but giving our actual military service members a shitty name...

I sold a guy some gear locally. we met and he asked if I would take paypal. i said if you take out your phone and pat now, sure. so, i sold the gear. a day later the money from his paypal that was in my paypal was gone!!! i called paypal and the buyer said he never got the gear. i called him thinking it had to be a mistake due to another deal he made. of course he never picked up the phone again. i called paypal and they wanted tracking info!! i said it was a local hand to hand deal. no matter what i did or said they never credited my account back so the guy basically stole my gear!!! i was so pissed. i quit paypal after that. you can most definitely get reamed hard on paypal!!

Sorry man, that fucking sucks. For local deals I guess cash is the only way to go.

I'm remote a good deal of the year and every time I try to explain my situation when purchasing or feeling out to sell, I just KNOW the guy I'm dealing with cant help but pass me off to be one of these POS scammers

I never realized that kinda shit could be pulled so easily with PP gift though. Guess it's time to start eat'n that 3%.

PayPal Gift or regular PayPal - you can get fucked over either way. The bottom line is, if somebody wants to rip you off, they can.

Well, piss..

Everytime I have ever listed something on Craigslist I have gotten same b.s. message about dude being in the military etc. When I sold my quad, guitars, amps, motorcycle, same bullshit so yes, 99% its a scam or using stolen Paypal or credit cards, or check.

"ready to offer you the demanded price" who the F talks like that? The demanded price. I usually send these guys a go F yourself response.... SCAM.

Of for FUCK sakes... Any time these army/navy cats come along it's a complete and utter scan and shill-fest. Tell him to GFTO.

I had one that went as far as to send me his identification with his name obviously and blatantly photoshopped onto the existing/original picture ID of some other dude. Forget about it - the whole military/navy thing is an attempt to add cred to the post/inquiry. It's garbage.

Anyone that has minimal experience selling on Craigslist has seen all the scam offers

Yeah, that's totally a scam. I'm glad I found this post - I'm selling a motorcycle and got the same email almost word for word. I created an account here just to post this and let you know you are correct.

It felt scammy, and now I know for sure. I'm going to see if I can work out a down payment from the guy and hold the bike until he says he's back from deployment... ;) At least I'll waste his time.

biggest clue it's a scam is that not once did they mention the actual item you're selling.

This. And the thing is, they probably send out dozens if not hundreds of those a day, so sticking it to them with a "fuck you" or "nice try dude" probably doesn't even faze them.
