So I actually got this Thursday, but found out the phantom power didn't work and spent most of the day yesterday here trying to get it worked out... but Peter jumped in like he usually does and saved the day and is sending me the part that it needs for free...

Most of you know I started with the Herbert but had such a lust for the VH-4 I traded it, well I quickly realized that Herbert is definitely my amp... albeit I definitely need to rip the 6L6's that are in this thing out ASAP because they sound far too scooped...

I took some gut shots as well because I know you guys like that kinda thing, me personally I have absolutely no idea what all that stuff is, and prefer not to mess with it, but I figured you guys could oogle a little bit...

Also took a pic of my very simple yet very awesome live rig altogether minus my fiddles...

Yea, CSB for me...

Oh should also add Chris wasn't aware of the issue with the head when we traded... and I totally believe him... he was going to buy a MIDI board from me to start using MIDI because he never had, so I can totally see how he wouldn't know the phantom power didn't work, awesome guy to deal with :thu:

Ahh !!! Diezel porn....

Glad you got your phantom power issue solved. When you get your new voltage regulator, make sure your tech
puts a dab of thermal paste on the back of it before he puts on the heat sink. That's how Peter does it.
It should ensure many years of trouble free operation.

Woah, so I'm guessing installing this thing isn't something I can do myself then? I sent Peter an E-mail asking him this but he hasn't replied... what all does it entail? And what is he sending me anyway? Can you point it out in the pictures of the guts I have posted? Cheers man!

Congrats
And ain't those a thing of beauty on the inside, who says beauty is only skin deep.

Is it legal to post gut shots? :D

I think what you need to replace is one of the two guys marked with the arrow (it's ONLY my guess). But Peter will certainly guide you through the process. You won't manage to do it yourself unless you feel comfortable with soldering.

It will be VR2 that needs to be replaced. A Voltage Regulator takes the low voltage supply from the power transformer and drops it
down from 23V to 12V and maintains a constant 12V supply for the phantom power. The other VR1 is +12V for the LED's, Relays and the
third is the 5V supply for the midi chip.

I would let your tech handle the replacement.

Yes, you have a killer setup. I have heard it quite a few times in some pretty big venues and know firsthand what that amp with that cab can do. Good luck on the amp issues.

Peter was dead on... he said the voltage regulator needed replacing... you guys are the shit... I sent you an E-mail today Peter asking about the parts... but didn't realize you had replied to this thread, thank you so much man!!!!

Mark2c..... you have been the biggest help man nothing I can say will express how grateful I am for all your help, you truly are the shit

And to "MILLS Acoustics" I don't know if you are the actual owners/builder or not (I would assume so) but man I gotta tell you, your cabs have really opened my eyes, that's about the biggest compliment I can personally give, incredible piece of gear... I have 3 pairs of Ruby EL34BSTR's on the way, should be here tomorrow, can't wait to get them in this things, I need my mids back!!! And the 6L6's just aren't cuttin' it!!!!

Thanks mate. I don't know if you gig or not, but I hope you get a chance to get this rig into a big club or venue somewhere and run the master on the herbie up to about 7+ through the Afterburner. It is almost a "religious" experience. Have fun.
