Definitely one of the Great ones. I remember grabbing his first couple albums back when I was discovering all the Shrapnel Records releases..Gilbert, Moore, etc.

great stuff
don't like the solo work that much though...

Meh. Vinnie Moore is so badass, Tony Mcalpine used to play keyboards for him.

Tony is incredible. He can rip on piano just as well as he can on guitar if not more. I always have loved his playing. He was very sick the last couple of years and I hope he is doing better now. I haven't heard much on his health lately.

I've been a fan of Tony since the late 80s. He's such a monster...and in different styles. I saw him with Derek Sherinian around 2005 and was floored. That night I was convinced I had to start playing 7 string and I had to have Sherinian play on one of my songs.

I saw Vinnie Moore on his Minds Eye tour, but he did a clinic at a super small guitar shop where only about 20 of us got to see him right there 1 foot away, yeah he's damn good, and I have always liked McAlpines playing as well,Edge of Insanity!!

He owned it about 10 years before that when Edge of Insanity was released ;) He had a short tour last year where he played the entire album...so bummed I missed it when he can to Dallas.

Great player and is awesome with Vai as keyboard/guitarist as well

I'll tell you, I play on tour in a band with Tony over here in France right now, having to do a guitar solo battle-style with him every night is humbling, ha ha! He is a very interesting guitar player- he really doesn't approach the guitar like most of us, and I attribute that to his classical piano back around mostly. His techniques, note choices, and the way he approaches the instrument- he doesn't really come at it like a guitarist but more just like a musician that plays the notes that he wants to play and uses the guitar as a tool if that makes sense. This is why he can double lines and harmonize with himself while playing keyboard with one hand and guitar with the other legato style. His brain is just on another level and in a different place than most of us. Like I say it's all very interesting to watch and hear.

Wow, cool stuff!

Love TMac. Of course the solo albums are awesome...but often overlooked are the Awesome Ring of Fire Albums he did with Mark Boals. So good, seriously love them:

I know what you're saying about playing the guitar and keys at the same time. It's as if it's just a stream of consciousness flowing through his arms and hands playing both at the same time. Mike Keneally can do that too. It's just beyond my fragile, little mind.
