So I've got a room I'm building out, 10x15 feet plus an 8 x 3.5 ft closet. ( in the basement ).I'm toying with the idea of doing staggered studs to decouple outer wall from inner wall and then doing 1 or 2 layer 5/8 drywall with insulation in walls. I'm thinking cabs and mics in closet for Loud tracking but I have my drumkit in the 10x15 area plus small console and outboard gear. 100% soundproofing isn't going to happen but If I start sealing around doors and corners, I am worried about air. There is an existing duct for heat/air conditioning which I could silence but am I running the risk of running out of air? Or is there enough leakage elsewhere? My gut tells me I probably should allow air to get in under the door which opens to rest of basement. Won't be soundproof for drums but it will sure as hell cut a ton of noise down from cymbals and snare to the point where it is background noise in house.

Any of you have experience doing this? Any advice or things to consider?

I used 2x6 exterior wall construction, filled with spray foam insulation.

Installed a thru-the-wall AC unit for ventilation & cooling in my home studio.

Go with airflow.. Did you ever smell the room where guitar lessons go down?? It smells like musty hot breath.. LOL

Something to note is that I am in Canada in a newer home and there is a cold air pipe from outside and exchanger which feeds furnace so unless I am wrong, I'm thinking I am getting fresh air pumped through ducts when I heat/cool and the return air is being pulled back through return vents. So I'd need to figure out some sort of return.
