I've had a few ESPs over the years and am in the market for another for current recording sessions.

Used a 2010 Standard (Japan) Horizon which had a good sound, but did not like the neck now looking back. It didn't seem very wide. The specs stated it was 25.5" scale with a 12" radius, but I struggled to get all of my fingers on the neck a lot as if the actual width of the neck was smaller.

I made the jump to M-II last time around, and the neck felt wider despite same scale and radius as the Horizon. The 95' from Japan actually played a little faster than the 2021 from USA... something about the Japan neck was a little thinner and faster (I am guessing the thickness).

Anyhow, anyone able to pinpoint exactly what it is that is different between the Horizon and M necks? Of course the Horizon is NTB, but the neck width felt more narrow.
With that said, were there any years where the M neck felt "small" like the aforementioned Horizon?

I've had a lot of ESPs. The USAs are not the same as the Japanese Original Series. The necks are different, and even the Original Series necks have changed over the years.

The '90s and 2000-ish Japanese guitars I've had tend towards thinner and narrower necks. At some point as they transitioned to the new Tokyo shop (2017ish), the necks seem to get a bit thicker and wider.

The USA necks also seem wider. They seem about the same thickness of the Japanese ones of the same era. Some have been a C shape while others more of a D. Not sure if that was intentional or just inconsistent neck shaping from their shop.
