I love that riff and the tone! I must just be getting old. I love that raw thin tone only because it defined a certain period. Same thing when I hear Mick Mars' "Shout at the Devil" tone. Just fits the period.

My mom took away my Shout cassette when she saw the pentagram on the cover. Good thing she didn't check my walkman for the tape!

more than likely it was the best tone for the riff. Any more mids/low mids and it it would probably have sounded like mush. As it is it cuts through like a knife and we all know exactly what he's playing. Seems like the overall mix is good to me

One of my fav Dio tunes though, remember buying that album in vinyl...

Just listened to it and to my ears its a perfect fit for the song vibe

Same thing that happened to me when my catholic mother saw my Holy Diver cassette. Fortunately, all she did was throw it away...a quick trip to the garbage can and I was back in business

Not really. Bottom line is that he was underpaid at the time but he put up with it so he could be a rock star. The he/said Dio/said thing can go back and forth but the bottom line is that he wrote those tunes and the band and him never had bad blood. So what if they wanna go out there and kick some ass? People want to hear it so they brought it. It sure as hell beats the crappy shit Def Leppard put out with Viv.

I'd gladly accept one underpaid job doing what I dig, that launches me into doing it full-time till the end. I don't know the story here but I wouldn't complain. Heck, how many of us have been underpaid for jobs we didn't like and that led nowhere? Mmmmhmmmm

That album was always a favorite of mine, came out exactly 10 years before I was born (5/25/83, I was born 5/25/93)

But I agree that Viv and the boys in Twisted Sister were a part of the real thin tone every once in a while... No idea why SUaS sounds so thin nowadays...

I think Twisted Sister had horrific sounding guitar parts. Rhythms especially.

Didn't help that they weren't very good players.
