Yes it's bad to drink and drive but detail to me how DUI laws prevent DUI's.
Within those laws, is the text from which an officer can justify a traffic stop based on reasonable suspicion. From there cases are either built or the driver is released. No law is perfect. But we cannot be a nation without them. Humans are too selfish to exist on the principle of doing the right thing.

Dan, you should keep a diary.

😉

We had a functioning country without DUI laws. They are control+money for governmental authorities.

You realize we have the most lax drunk driving laws in the civilized world right ?
I wouldn't call them lax.

I guess I'm trying understand what for what reason you think that would be better.
Unless they drink and drive and cause injury or damage I don't see a crime. Take them off the road for the night and they are on the hook for 3 hots and a cot and a tow truck.

Try drinking and driving anywhere in Europe and see what happens.

I'm sure plenty of people still drink and drive despite tough laws. Maybe they should just make us all wear helmets and five point safety harnesses and blow into ignition interlock devices to drive. S-A-F-E.

Most European countries put you in prison for it dude. 1st offense. Here you gotta get 3 in10 years for it to be a felony. That’s barring accidents with injuries and property damage.

The legal limit in most countries is half of what it is here.

So what point are you trying to make? That it's not bad here? Europe pays more taxes "it's not bad here tho" 30 percent later, lol. Europe can suck a bug.

No. My point is that if you don’t drink and drive, who cares what the law is ?

Hey, sidebar. Letter came in the mail yesterday. It was a lien release. I now own my compound free and clear. Well, except the taxes. Fucking sweet though amirite ?

Little after the fact, don't you think?

How about the designed-to-fail sobriety tests they do on the roadside. So basically, even if you pass them, you're still getting hit with a DUI, which is a fairly serious charge to have to deal with. Beat the rap but not the ride and basically any shithead cop can run you through it cause the system is gamed.

Comal county keeps a judge on duty 24/7 to sign warrants so they can do forcible blood draws on suspected impaired drivers. I just don't get down with the entire program.

Heck yes it is. Big congrats on that one Floyd!

If you pass them, why are you being charged? While it may be different from state to state, no, any cop cannot run you through it.

Waiting to enforce the law only after a crash.

A cop can do pretty much whatever he wants once you are on the side of the road in front of his cruiser pulled over. If you ain't gotta tail light out well you do now

I'm suggesting if they are stopped for suspected drunk driving, that should be the solution. If they crash into someone or something, that would be different.

C'mon man. Life isn't some bad 70's "come here boy" movie. It's not that way anymore and you know it.

You're assuming that doesn't happen.

Maybe you have been blessed with the appearance of alabaster peace and contentedness but I look like I'm on my way to hijack a plane so we probably have received differing levels of customer service at times with our local law enforcement agencies.

That what doesn't happen?
