Anybody use/have used one of these?
How are they?

Saw it in Billy Gibbons' rig and started watching some vids on YouTube...seems pretty neat. And really versatile.

It's ok. I have danced with one twice now over the past 20 years. I first picked one up back when it was originally released (late 80's / early 90's) and used it for 4 years or so, then picked up another about 2 years ago, which only stuck around for about 6 months.

Their versatility is great, and if you're into building a midi rig, this will fill the bill. Tonewise, I give it a 6 out of 10 overall. You can coax some really nice gained out tones from it. Cleans are just ok - kind of 2 dimensional and boring though, and mid-gain tones are lacking.

Buy it for the warm, fat fully blown Marshall lead tone. If you need top notch clean and gritty tones, look elsewhere...

EDIT: Wow, that was my 1,000th post. Send in the clowns!

I didn't like it. It has a solid state sound that is harsh and muddy, and it's hard to really get something that sounds clear and natural compared to other amps. It just has a weird voicing. I tried it with a VHT 2/50/2 and it was icepicky. I could use it, but there are better setups out there IMO.

There's some serious debate over this unit--truth is, it sounds OK Marshall, but you can pull both preamp tubes and it still works. Not sure what that says about the tube signal path...

Its determined to work
I think they sound pretty good. For the money you can get them for now, its a good buy. They are pretty reliable

well .Ace frehley ,Iron Maiden .Judas Priest ,Akira Takasaki ,Dave Mustaine .approve..

I agree about the cleans they really are not good .
OD1 is where its at through with a good el34 power amp they can dish out some righteous tones IMO.

I had it a few years back but I will also say the speaker emulation direct to the board was very good for that time

Mine arrived yesterday. I may still be in the honeymoon phase, but I'm digin it.
