How can $200 pickups sound like shit?!?!?!?

Maybe the Dinky you have is a bright guitar and needs darker voiced pickups.

Thin-sounding to me = out-of-phase or parallel instead of series wired... as noted above, make SURE everything is where it's supposed to be and everything is well-grounded.

Good luck!!!

I don't think it would cause thin tones, but the stock wiring diagrams for my Blackouts had a lot of ground loops. That would just cause excessive noise. I have the ABH-1 set, and they are killer, but they don't do cleans very well. Loads of bottom end, killer pups.

Eh it could be you don't like the pickup. I've tried many different pickups and even though a lot of people recommend the Bareknuckle Aftermath I hated it in my JEM. Probably the worst sounding pickup for that guitar. Maybe it was the woods or something but it was god awful. I know it was wired perfectly as I do a lot of pickup swaps, especially bare knuckles. Threw the Evo back in there and it sang, even in drop tunings unlike the Aftermath which felt sterile and lifeless. I know it must sound better for other guitars though as a lot of people like them.
