How do you know if your output transformer is going out?

I just retubed my bogen vplexi with winged c 34's and c9 and eh 12ax7's. When im using my PPIMV, I get this really smooth transition in volume when turning up, which is cool, but it seems that some of the volume is suddenly gone. The power tubes maybe have an hour to hour and a half on them.

Before when I turned the PPIMV up half way it would kill you, now, I can max it and it just isn't there. It's like from 2-10 on the PPIMV there is absolutely no change in volume. I get a killer sound don't get me wrong, but the "police helicopter circling overhead" volume is gone.

Im starting to wonder if the OT is on its way out or is there something else I should be looking at.

This amp is my baby. I can't live without it.

If it didn't do that when you had the old tubes in there then you've found your problem. You should be looking at your tubes.

Volume definitely goes when the output trannie dies.

Check the tubes first - if old and new have the same problem I'd get it serviced.

Ok, so I put the old set of power tubes back in, el34bstr, same story. It gets loud, it just doesn't get earth shattering loud like it used to. What other things can I look at or test to figure out what the problem is? Is there an easy way to test the OT with a DMM and see if its reading about where it should be?

This all started after the 12ax7 blew thats in v1, at least I think its v1 lol. Its the preamp tube on the very left side of the amp, first one of three total.

Ok, so I put the old set of power tubes back in, el34bstr, same story. It gets loud, it just doesn't get earth shattering loud like it used to. What other things can I look at or test to figure out what the problem is? Is there an easy way to test the OT with a DMM and see if its reading about where it should be?

Switch out the v1 or phase v3 inverter tube. almost every time I have had a volume issure it has been a pre tube and not a power tube.

Its happen to me more then a few time with new preamp tubes. Sometimes They aren't the most reliable. Id definitely try swapping them out again just to narrow down the problem.
