When I used to use a rack I would put the head on top of the rack. It just seemed more stable that way.

I had a minor stint with the rack. I likes to place the head inside the rack. It just feels so right.

^^^^^This, but it's expensive. Otherwise go with what's most stable.

From Rock Hard Road Cases...

Love the combo head/rack case but I prefer a seperate rack because I use a small 4sp rack and I like the idea of being able to use it with other amps. Besides the fact that it makes it a whole lot more portable..

I have a velcro strap that goes from the rack side handles to under the head and its nice and secure once attatched...

Yep, I'm actually looking to move this...just need to figure out the best way to sell it. Once I do, I'm going to get a separate road case for the SLO and just have an 8 space rack (RT/2-50 will be replaced by a Matrix, and Fish will be hopefully sold). And it's not like I tour or anything; I just did that as a project. :D

Depends on the sizes of the devices. If the head is the biggest it goes on the bottom. My MarkIV is smaller so when for a while I was using a rackmount poweramp with it, the poweramp went on the bottom and the MarkIV sat on top. I had a small rack unit as well which was smaller than the MarkIV, so that sat on top it, like a pyramid. Everything needs to be balanced. Plus it looks silly if a bigger sized unit sits on top, looks like it is ready to fall down.

All my heads are in racks.
If I have a separate fx rack or pedal board the head is on the cab:

If Everything is racked, heads on the bottom - weight distribution:

I always put the rack on the floor on the side of where the amp head is. only takes having your stuff knocked over once at a "Hi energy" show to make sure there are no balancing acts wanted on your gear. If you do have to stack for what ever reason always use a tie down.

This is how I currently have my rack. It looks better, and is more stable IMO

I always had the rack on top of the cabinet with the back 2 rubber feet of the rack hanging off the back so the rack was slightly pointing up ( it was an 8U rack), or I simply put the cab next to the cab on the ground. This was when I had 2 4x12 cabs, so 1 cab had the head on top, and 1 cab had the rack on top. If we are talking a 1 cab setup, I would leave the rack on the floor.

With a smaller rack i'd go on top of the head especially if it has a live in case. This is an older rig of mine when i had a G system.

Now i have a 12 space rack on wheels so i kept the head on top of the rack and had the whole thing next to the cab. However i currently have a Head+rack case on its way so i'll have everything all in one.

Don't like the look of small racks and head/cabinet pile-ups in any order.

I guess in that situation I would want a head/rack setup similar to this...
