I listed a guitar an hour ago for $2900, will entertain offers. Guy sends me an offer for $2900 with "textmeXXXXXXXXXX" (real phone number included). I know it's a scam, so I didn't want to accept, which would force him to buy, he wouldn't pay and then my listing would be down for a few days while it all played out. But what was he trying to pull?

He was gonna try to get you to send it to Nigeria or some bullshit.

That weak? Ad clearly states lower 48 only.

Same guitar on FB Marketplace got some bozo from Bulgaria telling me he'd take it and his brother, who just happens to live in Phoenix, would come pick it up. I said ok. Never heard from him again.

Not sure how it would work but generally the FB scam is they will send a courrier to pick it up, you just have to pay the say 50$ holding fee to ensure that they have something to pick up. You pay it to some bogus service and nobody shows up. Some guy sent a note to my wife over a 40$ inflatable pool she was selling lol. Buddy, it ain't worth that much trouble, i'd sooner throw it out.

I guess I was expecting something more sophisticated. I did sell a Hot Rod DeVille on TGP when I first joined up about 12 yrs ago. The guy wanted me to ship to some Mailboxes Etc-like place in Arcadia, CA. Lots of red flags (no pun intended). But he paid and the funds cleared. I was skeptical, but it all worked out.

I've had this happen too. They're just trying to lure you off-site, then the scam attempt commences. I just tell them to fuck off, and report it. Then they get booted.

It's probably happened to me 3 or 4 times, and surprise, surprise, none had any feedback whatsoever.

Just reported him. I doubt it will stop anything. I just don't get how people fall for scams. Closest I ever came was a honeytrap in China, but I still caught it in time.

I gotta say, I was blown away how oblivious Reverb was on a couple occasions. They took the stance that they were trying to conduct a sale off-site, and said "we've blocked them from contacting you". Then got the speech about never conducting sales off site, (because they lose money, not beware of scams).. I was like, "Are you an idiot? They're scammers, not buyers". Dumb fucks, I swear.. But, others did indeed see scam, and deleted their account. Always a fucking foreigners with foreigner names. That might sound racist, but it is what it is.
