How far can you go with a well set up quality Floyd?

In terms of dive bombs and pull ups. Should you be able to go all the way down and up and still be in tune or is it normal that in these scenarios you'll lose a bit tuning even if you're using a quality floyd such as Schaller, Gotoh etc?

Floyd should not go out of tune basically ever.

Is there a specific string causing the problem? Issues that crop up typically are 1) strings that aren't fully stretched, 2) strings that are about to break and stretching too much, 3) nut is not clamping the strings well, 4) nut is shifting and needs to be fastened down better.

I see, basically every string seems to go out of tune at least a bit but G and B strings are the worst. My guitar in question has a Gotoh Floyd. The strings are almost new and i just got this guitar from the builder as it is a custom built guitar.

My 18 year old ESP custom shop 7 string has a Floyd on it and it can be "dived" or "pulled" and never goes out of tune. I take my time setting up guitars with floyds so they come out right and never go out of tune.

Builder may not have stretched the strings. It happens.

All I can tell you is that I fully utilize my original Edge tremolo and unless I really abuse it, as shown in the video below, it stays perfectly in tune. Even this is only slightly out.
After owning an Original Edge trem, I probably will not go back to floyds unless it is a MIG issued.

My ibanez edges and my Schaller lockmeisters just flat DON'T go out of tune.

Stretch the strings! Loosen the nut, and stretch them. Do some dives and pull ups with the nut loose, retune, and good to go.

Typically, when there's structural/component issues, it'll cause the strings to go sharp. Flat, it's normally the strings.

Make sure the nut is bolted to the neck properly. Sometimes they are loose, and the nut isn't on tight.

About Schallers, how do you feel about them? I was actually thinking about using either lockmeister or the normal one on a partcaster that i might build in future. The price is at least unbeatable in Europe, only 155€ per unit.

They stay in tune great and I love them, but I have no comparison of other premium floyds.

If they work/fit on my Jacksons I will be buying five lockmeisters.

Its all about the proper set-up, and following the proper procedure when setting up the Floyd...

Good to hear, i'll be getting one of them as well in that case.

This. Whether it's a Fr Special, or the FR1000 that came with the Charvel USAs, or a Schaller OFR or Ibanez Edge they all perform like designed IF set up properly. Like others have stated the usual issue for me has been the locking nut might need some new parts, if the tuning suffers. Also try to get the bridge as level as possible to the body(no matter how high or low you set the action).

As stated above with a lil foreplay you can go all the way

I keep the trem maybe 10° forward and have had better results since. Mr. Suhr said that at some point and I took his advice.

If it's set up properly you can go as far as the 80s.

Hmm. Is that for a Gotoh? I've only ever had any issues if it wasn't level...but I can't remember if it was leaning back or forward. I've been leveling them for years. Most issues are fixed with new nut pieces.

Just got a 91 USA Dinky with a Schaller Floyd.
Doesn’t go out of tune.
Neither does the Floyd on my Satchel.
