How good is the Gforce?

I'm looking at something for the loop of a Friedman Marsha. Should I stick with pedals ? Is a G-Force going to suck tone?

G-force is incredibly powerful - you have insane control over the programming block functions of each effect and can control each block's parameters and routing individually and internally.

any effects rack will suck tone if there is AD/DA conversion - but stat for stat the GM-II has lower THD numbers, better conversion speeds, and just as fast of a processor and also has intelligent pitch shifting which was the g-forces more strong point before the gm-II and g-system came out, meaning numbers for numbers the G-major II delivers the goods and on paper is pretty impressive.

the g-force would take some getting used to if you are not first familiar with a g-major menu layout. IMHO even though the converters are a little slower/not high as quality as the GM-II in the g-force, i still prefer the tone of the G-force delays over the D-two and GM series. i owned a g-major for 2-3 years.

if you want the routing capabilities go for the G-force, otherwise i recommend the GM-II.

I agree with everything glpg80 has said. I've owned a G-Force for about 6 years, which is the is the longest I've ever owned a rack effects unit.
I can't compare it to the GM-II or G-system since I've never owned them.
I use mine with the (killdry function engaged) thru the parallel effects loop on my amp. I think the reverb, delays and modulations effects are excellent and I have no plans on replacing mine anytime soon.

Nuff said... The thing is capable of GREAT things

+1 i like the sound of it the best, even though the GM-II has better hardware. the internal algorithms are hard to beat.

I have had mine for a couple years now and have no intentions of getting rid of it.

Can it do ambient synthy stuff? Like weird shimmer effects and spacey stuff like the Eventides and Axe?

its got vai like patches yes, a cheap AM radio simulator, etc - alot of off the wall settings that would depend on the player. remember it was made a pretty good while ago and TC is no longer supporting it - at least thats what TC told me directly last time i talked to them which was ~2-3 weeks ago. they arent making anymore memory bank cards for them, and are not offering any software upgrades or editing programs - just the unit itself and the limited warranty if purchased new - thats all.

they are pushing the g-system hard.

still think the g-force sounds better. whatever they did in the g-system they took a few steps backwards and then shot themselves in the foot. at $1,000 it sounds too damn close to the G-Major II to justify the difference in price.

Is an Eventide Eclipse a huge step up?

meh

im impartial to eventide anything. to my ears they all add a sterile shrillness that is part of the converters and algorithms they use. especially now-days, i liked alot of the earlier eventide units back when it wasnt so bad

compared to the g-force, all of the g-majors sound thin and have no umph behind what you play.

im building my rig around one. its a workhorse of a tone beast and has its own thing going on that the g-system, GM-II, eventide eclipse, H series, etc cannot touch.

the only thing i hate about the g-force is that it does not have XLR balanced inputs and outputs, so think of it as a better programmed G-major II but with older hardware to do it.

Different, better at doing certain things, imo--

Wondering if TC Electronic's gonna put out a G-Force II or are they gonna concentrate on G-System and G-Major II?

I really like the G Majors (price, use... all that combined)... And if the G Force is a step up from that, you jus can't lose.

There must be a reason why big names have been using them for years.

I was really surprised when I found out they were from my home country... I always thought: "Man... Denmark never makes anything really cool". But apparently they do :D
