(When your dad's a carpenter?)

I'd like to make a wooden one for my Herbert, I've not attempted a drawing yet but I wonder if anyone can alert me of anything I may miss? + Are there any kinds of specific shops that would sell the foam that most cases have on their inside?

Thanks.

When choosing the wood, no more than 3/16" thick - you don't want your flightcase to be heavier than the actual amp. Hardware like metal corners, handles and hinges are pretty easy to find. Look on eBay if you can't find some locally. I don't know if Lowes/Home Depot/whatever carries them in the US. Here in Montreal, Home Depot doesn't.

After I put my Herbert in an "Affordable Cases" live in flight case the amp became pretty awkward to move by myself because of the weight. I think building one out of wood isn't going to be very practical if your going to be moving it at all. Just my opinion. Might be a cool project for you and your Dad.

Thanks both  but to Jack, it's going to have wheels - one thing I'd like to make different would be to have slots for the wheels to fit in, e.g if I was doing the typical head ontop of cab setup, the cabs case would have some kind of grooves in the top so I can just put the head unit on it with the wheels left in.

I just get the feeling that after aquiring all the materials, you really wound't be saving that much money at all.

It sounds like a pain the the ass job...

Sounds like a fun project and totally doable, lots of great parts suppliers out there but in the end it might be cheaper to have it built or a ready made one,but still a fun project!!!

After buying the hardware, you deffinately dont save a lot of money. I build a lot of specialty cases ie.. 1 head+4 rack spaces etc...
I get my hardware from http://www.tchweb.com
Good luck
