Thinking of downsizing my 4-12 and picking up the EVh 2x12 cabinet?? How do they sound???

they sound good, feel very cheaply made. The one I had came from the factory out of the box brand new with dents and depression all over it.

I would consider an avatar 2x12 for the money it is hard to beat.

I have a 1x12 by them with a classic lead 80 that I use with my Blackstar HT-5 head and I love it

I have an evh 1x12 I put a evm12l
I don't have any exp with a 1x12 to compare but like it .
I took out the g12h 70th ann and put it the ev so I could run any of my heads 50 or 100 watt and not worry about blowing the speaker .

I have one that I use with the 50 watt head. I think it sounds great.

I bought one thinking I could use it for rehearsal and smaller gigs. I was wrong, sounds cheap to me. Tiny, thin. A better option I think would be the marshall os 2x12 (1936)

I have one and also a Splawn 2x12 and the Splawn with smallblocks sounds much better. EVH isnt a bad cab but it is a bit boxy and bright sounding imo. Then again mine is brand new

I've owned the Bogner OS 2x12, a J Design 2x12, and a couple of Avatar 2x12's and the EVH is one of the best I've owned especially matched with the EVH 50 watt head.

My exact experience. I ran two of them with the 50w head for a while. "Boxy" and "bright" are the first two characteristics that came to mind. I didn't care for them at all, but I also didn't have them long enough to really break the speakers in either FWIW.

The 2x12 doesn't have the EVH speakers right?

It has the Celestion G12H 30W Anniversary Series, the combo has the Greenback Re-Issues in it. I think each EVH head sounds best with the cabinet that it comes with.

The 2x12 isn't cheaply made either. It's made form 7-Ply 5/8" Birch Plywood.

I have tried my evh 50 watt head with an avatar cab and evh 4x12 as wel as the evh 2x12 and it sounds best with the evh 2x12 to me. It is very well matched to that cab. plus it looks great , has the locking and tilting feature as well. I got mine used for 250. the deals are out there, GET THE EVH 2X12 cab!!

fwiw, that tilt back feature sucks imo. Tilt back = loss of all low end...sounds thin as the wind

I don't get the thin comments. The EVH 212 I had had killer low end. It was bright, but still had good heft.

I heard many, many times that G12H30's take a long time to break in, but once they do, the bright high end diminishes.

For a 212, I thought it was great. The speakers sounded like a cross between a V30 and a greenback.

I ended up selling mine before I had time to break it in. I'm a 412 guy and bought a 2nd EVH 412 in mint condish for 400. I couldn't pass it up, so I sold my 212 to get the 412.

At some point I want to get another EVH 212. Sounded better and just as thick to me as my old Mesa recto 212...

This is my 212 with the EVH 50 watt head, no post EQ:

Thin sounding and cheaply made?

That is the last thing I would expect anyone to say. I think it is built extremely well and sounds very good, though I have only played the EVH 50w through it. Tilt back feature is perfect to hear yourself on stage and makes it easier to change the controls.

I only said it was thin sounding when using the tilt back feature. I did say that it is 'bright' and 'boxy' sounding, but it does have good low end and is tight and holds together nicely. It's a very well built cab imo and doesnt look or feel cheap at all. I just need to break in the speakers

I will say again though...I do not like playing it tilted back. I keep it flat and just turn up, I need to hear the bass response when I play ;)

if you're tired of messing around and want that HUGE 4x12 sound out of a 2x12 cab you can carry....get one of these

http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/Briti ... on-Cabinet

...NIGHT and DAY compared to any smaller 2x12 cab.
IN FACT, the y rival 4x12 cabs....no b.s.
I have a few that I cut out the center 10" section of the back....
and the BASS and spread.. resulting is bigger than my early 70's marshall 4x12 cabs...yep.

I owned one briefly and it sounded great, however had more than a few finish issues, and a few questionable spots on the interior that made me question how it would hold up.

Your much better off snagging a used mesa, orange, of avatar at a similar price point.
