How long does it take to get a pup from Seymour Duncan?

I had a local shop order me a duncan custom 5 because if you buy from them, they'll install for free.
They told me that when you buy a pick up from duncan, they have to make it, as they don't just keep a stock pile of all their production pickups around.
Anyone have any experience with ordering pickups direct from them? Roughly how long does it usually take?
I'm not talking about a custom shop job, but rather a regular production pickup.

Next time, consider checking out banjomikez on ebay

He stocks pretty much all existing Dimarzio and SD pickups in various colours

As far as installing, soldering is a quick, inexpensive and useful skill to learn

Edit: If SD don't stock their own merchandise, they're the most idiotic company of all time

i know how to do all that stuff, but i'm working so much, and have two small kids to deal with, so its hard to find time.
plus its a semi hollow (a bit trickier) that needed a pro set up anyway, so i took it in.
normally i would just buy em and do it myself.
i thought it seemed pretty goofy too, since they're such a popular company.

No need to explain yourself there, I was just giving out info in case you didn't know ;)
I don't particularly enjoy soldering either, but I'm even cheaper than I'm impatient
Seems like your local store pulled one of those phony seller excuses

Seymour Duncan like EMG and MANY other companies in this industry don't have a huge supply of all their pickups just sitting on warehouse shelves gathering dust waiting for someone to call and order it. That doesn't make them the most idiotic company in the world, just a company trying to run lean and mean like most other companies in the world for about 20 years now.

A common pickup like the Custom 5 is normally an available the next day sort of pickup though.

If you can handle factory production correctly, you're supposed to know what comes in (orders) and what comes out (supply) and manage it, that doesn't mean having larges warehouses full of stock, nor does it mean waiting for an order to build something; it's somewhere in the middle.

I ordered a Custom '78 directly from their custom shop and it arrived within 10 days. I also ordered a custom zebra Whole Lotta Humbucker from them thru Sweetwater. I ordered the set in January, and didn't get them until March.

It only takes about 5 business days to get a zebra Whole Lotta Humbucker set. Unless you deal with a store that has them on their shelves already, which would be almost no store on the planet. Notice I said almost? ;) Sweetwater dragged their feet before ordering your pickup. No question.

Custom shop orders are usually 2-4 weeks. Usually sooner than longer and worth the wait.
Chubtone has a music store in Stanton ca called squid music .bjggest selection of Duncan pickups I have ever seen...

Get the Pegasus , you will thank me later :)

Thanks Reza! Did you come in?

That pisses me off even MORE now considering I paid 3K for a LP Standard with shitty stock pickups which is now 1K less. Had to gut the control cavity with a Martin Six String Custom rig.   This Les Paul is going to be the end of me.

Yep, came in the other day 30 min before closing. Played the not yet priced 58 gibby, played the 1 watt randall, passed on the evh, passed on the SG.

You should have told me that was you. I was the bald haired dork behind the counter that was talking to you. I can't tell you how many times people have come in and said I'm megashred937 from Rig Talk or some other forum. It's always cool meeting forum guys. I've seen your vids but you always had a shaved head.

Don't be angry. I wouldn't have thrown in .12c worth of candy and then called you at work and home every now and then to try and sell you something. :D

Just got my "courtesy call" from Ryan yesterday...they're obviously pimping recording gear right now as that was what he wanted to talk about.
