Was wondering how loud do most of these get? Does it get that power tube distortion at lower volumes or is it still too loud for home playing?

Amps like the Suhr 18 watt Badger, Budda SD 18 or Reinhardt 18.

VERY Loud   Really. Mark's 5 watter was loud. I was surprised. I think those Badgers have the power scaling, no?

Yeah man, it's loud - diming an 18 watter is still too loud for some gigs even.

A NMV 18w is still loud. But a 18w with a good master volume (like the Budda) is very very manageable, IMO.

Thats what I was thinking :( Oh well, I got my Variplex sounding pretty nice at lower volumes now with the UA. Still not low enough for when I get back from work though

You'd be surprised how loud a watt really is. I have an 18 watt Marshall clone I built, it's loud enough to peel paint off the walls!

What's really nuts is I owned a Zvex Nano amp, one of those tube amps the size of a guitar pedal? That thing through a 4x12 was easily heard outside my house with all the doors and windows shut. I believe they are like 1/2 a watt. *!*

What do you think of the SD 18? I haven't had much time looking into it yet but that amp has me pretty interested at the moment if I can get rid of some gear   Maybe I should just repurchase a AxeFX, after I sell all the stuff I need to I'll have have way more money than what my Dad needs.

Basically looking for a amp that will not blow my house away, does not cost over $1000ish, and has a FX loop. Can be played at "bedroom" volumes. Not looking for Ultra gain, just something Marshall like so far the Budda SD18 or Suhr Badger combo seems to fit the bill. Leaning towards the SD18 because of price.

I've had two of them - they're great. My main complaint with them is that they are pretty dark, tone-wise. Not at all Marshall like in that sense. But that aspect can be easily modded. But they're solid, and I've seen them as low as $700...kinda hard to beat that.

Been listening to clips, really digging the SD18 clips. I kind of like the dark sound of it, this thing sounds like it has a ton of gain on tap, but be just what I'm looking for. Does GC carry any Budda's? It looks like Musiciansfriend sells them online.

Found this clip on Netmusicians.

Is this the same hunter that browses these forums? Also How diff is the 18 than the 30?

I have a Budda SD 18 head and 4x12 for sale. Trying to downsize. It can shake the walls

What are you downsizing to?

Completely forgot about that :D When does those get released?

Randall also makes a single channel 18 watt head that runs one of the switchable modules at once... around $400ish used plus cost of a module. The amp has an fx loop, a footswitchable boost that can add more volume and gain (you get to dial in how much) and it's all tube. Also has presence and depth controls, which are cool. They also make a combo with a 1x12 greenback.

You could get one and a plexi module and do the marshall thing (with the channel/boost thing too!) and then have enough money left over to get a fendery module and a Recto module. ;)

Pic of mine is towards the top of the tower...

Not soon enough... I'm going to snag one as soon as they are available.

I was originally looking into one of these instead of the Rebel but I'd end up throwing in a Marshall-esque module anyways so why not go with the Rebel instead?

Rebel looks like an awesome deal too... I just like the flexibility of the Randall. Ability to change out the entire preamp in a minute? Footswitchable gain and volume control? Series FX loop? ability to bias the EL84's from outside the amp? Power amp depth and presence controls? Sounds like a great deal to me... I have a head and a combo, both are stellar amps and affordable.

What's the cost of the Rebel going to be? Nm, looks like its up on Music123 as a preorder for $599 for the head.

I owned a Reeves Custom 18 for a short period -- it was equipped with Power Scaling for get low vol playing, but that sucker was plenty loud for gigging. Even with a loud drummer and second guitar.
