How many delays are enough?

Anyone using more than one delay? I want to try to use my El Capistan for a short and old tape worn warble for texture into a longer delay from a SDE-3000 I have.

Do it man! I have 4 delay/reverb pedals on my board right now and I'm about to flip some gear to make room for another delay.

I run my Hardwire DL-8 on all that time just for a bit of wetness and character.... very little repeats, quick time... very subtle. I then kick in my Tech 21 DLA boost for solos... works really well and my sound guy seems to dig it :)

I use an aquapuss with a malekko 616 independently and together on my tremoverb.

I'm really interested in pushing the limits for more interesting/trails without having to take LSD or similar :D

You'll need something like a TC Electronics 2290 or Korg DL8000R to get that sort of sound. The other delay pedals or racks mentioned are good, but you're going to need multiple delay lines. I use the Korg DL8000R myself and am very happy with the sounds that I get, especially with the De Angelis presets that I bought from Italo.

I was running a Carbon Copy & an El Capistan. Typically i'd use the Carbon Copy for general lead delays & I'd use the Strymon for more colorful clean stuff. I do regret parting with the El Cap now, but I wasn't using it so much. It's not a pedal that lends itself to lead delays & the depth of the sounds are lost on higher drive settings I think.
The Carbon Copy is the one pedal that i've got no intention of letting go. Just a really musical & simple pedal.

If I may ask, where do you put the DL-8 in your chain?

Going to be setting up a second board and I usually like the delay in the loop but thought about going simple on this one and putting everything up front. There will be a few boosts/OD's on there as well.

I have 3 delays on my board, a DD-3, a TC Flashback II and a NU-X Time Force.

They all see a fair bit of use every gig.

I have 3. A Diamond Quantum Leap that I use for subtle delay with leads, a Hungry Robot The Wash that I use for soundscape stuff like intros or a break, and a TC Flashback Triple delay I use on cleans and for crazier delay stuff where it's more of an effect than a delay. The Triple Delay is awesome .

Boss DD-500 ended my search and accumation of delay pedals, presumably forever.
Only takes up 2 "boss-sized pedals" worth of space on my board and gives me ENDLESS options.

I use a Dig and a Carbon Copy so a I guess that’s three technically. And my Ventris has a delay in it so I can get some pretty over the top delay happening.  Honestly I’m good with none at all or just a touch of slapback but it sure is fun to get lost in the ambient stuff.

Evening... I run all my time and modulated type effect pedals in my loop.. always have. Ive heard the DL-8 and Carbon Copy 'can' be used in front of amp... but Ive never tried. Most my applications are high gain and those type effects just distort, muddy and color tone too much if not in a good loop.

I run from loop into my DL-8(always on) and then to my Tech DLA boost and back to return of amp. Up front... Guitar- Tuner- Wah- Phaser- into amp. I have no OD type pedal right now... but it would be before Phaser in chain most likely.

Sorry... doesn't help your 'simple' setup idea :) and my amp allows for loop to always be engaged by footswitch.

I stringed six up in a row before. That's 'nuff. Needless to say it was glorious.

It seems like a common practice is using two differently set delays/pedals/units (even brands) but can similar results be had by using a single rack multi effects that allows you to chain/run two different delays into each other? IOW, I'm cheap and would like to try this with my Lexicon MPX550 without adding another unit. Thanks.

Great topic. I am just looking for the "one" best delay. I try to keep my pedals simple, if any. I like to run the guitar straight to the amp but would like to add a killer delay. I run a OD at times.

Any suggestions for the single best delay?
