How often do you discard picks?

I use Fender celluloid so a lot. Pick scrapes tear them up. But certainly not Yngwie-level. That dude drop kicks more picks in one show than I’ve tossed my whole life.

I'm still using the same titanium pick a year later. The tip rounded a little, but right now that works to my advantage with the particular drills I'm doing.

I have tons. I hardly ever lose them when they get dull I sharpen them by ripping them across the carpet a few times. Good as new.

I learned the carpet trick from a Vai vid years ago. Works like a charm.

I bought some picks in 1976 that my bass player is still using. Pick he has used most since 2002.

I bought them in Soo Saint Marie. I think they are Clayton. Large Triangle.

Drummer I worked with made murals with them. Artist for a living.

I just use them till I lose them.

I use the carbon-fiber jazz3 max-grips. Doing a fair amount of fast alt-picking the bevel starts getting slanted a bit after a couple hours of play time. So I only get a few hours out of each pick since I really do prefer the stock "even" bevel of the brand new pick.

The JP-trinity picks, which I also like now and then just for the change, have a flow tip/bevel and are obviously made of a better tougher material (I think ultex maybe) because they take much much longer to wear.

Never. Not even the dog-chewed one we used to train on how to pick up my picks.

I can't recall ever throwing any away. I may have given some away to people that didn't have them but never tossed one in the trash.

As soon as they get slight bevels on playing edge is the time you switch them, if you are rich lol

But I would’t recommend going above a week or two on something like Tortex, and by that time it would be fairly worn out I’d say

Tortex 1.14, lots of alt picking heavy strings. I should ditch em around 30 min but I rock em close to an hour as if the challenge of the blunted tip will make me better. Whishful thinking? IDK. Also feels wasteful to discard them rapid fire like it’s a live 80’s shred concert.

Never. They find a way to leave me before I can ever consider it.
