How similar are these pickups?

Pretty different. The Super Distortion is extremely hot and fat. Lots of bass. The Duncan Distortion is like a bigger, tighter JB.

This.

I've seen a Super Distortion make a Les Paul go all mud, where the SD Distortion is balanced.

That's very reassuring. I've used the Super Distortion, found it too muddy for modern metal. Lately I've been considering the Duncan Distortion though and all looks good except I had the fleeting idea that they may be similar pickups and I too wouldn't be satisfied with it.

Don't forget all those great Lynch tones before Lynch Mob were the SD Distortion. It was his go to pup before the Screamin' Demon.

I'm just getting into Lynch now because I hear him mentioned every other day on the forum. What are some good listens? So far I have two albums from Dokken, Under lock and Key, and Back for the Attack. What are some other good listens?

You guys have me really gassing for an SD Distortion, how does it play in a routed Poplar body?

Don't forget "Tooth and Nail" and "Beast from the East" (live CD) are must haves.

I never understood why they didn't just send that blown tranny to somebody who could have reverse engineered it, rebuilt it and kept that sound.
