I'm looking for a low watt head, and will run into (2) closed-back Mesa Thiele 1x12's, with Celestion Black Shadows. I play generally Gary Moore, to 80's metal, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond to Metallica/Megadeth, and drop-D metal. I've heard great things about these, but nothing about how tight they can get with boost/EQ. I'm looking towards the Mini Rectifier as well. Any other options??

Would rather stay under 30 watts.

Heard good things about the Baron Snot Watt. Didn't care for the Mesa mini I played. Anyone tried an Engl gigmaster for metal?

The Superdrive series gets really tight with a boost. My SD80 was a monster when boosted.

I'm tempted to pull the trigger, but can't get any good clips available..

I have a boosted vid clip of my 80, but it has 6L6's and a SS rectifier. Preamp tone will be same but the 18 will have more sag and less headroom.
Basically a boosted plexi type tone.

The SD18 isn't as tight as the higher wattage Buddas. I really don't think it's the sound you're after and would look elseware.

Yeah, now that I think about the sag and quick power amp breakup from the 18 I believe you're correct.
