I know they sound great. I have yet to hear a bad clip of these amps. But how tight/responsive are they for articulate modern metal playing?

Go over to Baron's website. They have quite a few clips over there. I still have a bit K2 gas, but the wait is fairly long for a new one. Not much used around though.

I have a dial on mine that can open it up
A bit more but the main voice is very tight

How about in comparison to a Peters Hydra or Chimaira? I'm gassing hard for a new metal amp atm.

I can't speak for the Peters, but tight and articulate certainly describes the K series. At band practice yesterday the thing was so "on" I can't begin to describe how sweet it was. We do a lot of modern hard rock, quite a bit of drop D, Metallica, Ozzy, etc. It all sounded f'ing great.
