How to get audio from Cakewalk?

Last time I used Cakewalk, I had my Scarlett 2i2 acting as the sound card and interface and I could plug my Katana into the computer (or maybe I used the Scarlett) and I'd get sound from the amp through the speakers and could halfway record something.

Now, I'm trying to plug my Katana into the computer using the Katana as the interface (all my stuff is in storage) and Cakewalk is recognizing the Katana, and when I hit record and strum, the meter goes up and down showing the computer is recognizing an input, but there is nothing coming out of the PC speakers I have hooked up via usb.

How do I get sound into the computer, but coming out through my speakers? I'm trying to do a little more noodle recording with better quality than just using my cell phone camera.

Did you try setting the sound OUTPUT to the USB speakers and not the Scarlet?

Because I know you wants to rip that Neo Souls...

I finally got it to show USB audio in the output. I would select Katana Primary or Secondary as inout8and select USB Audio output and after I click apply, it pops up saying something is clashing, or something is already in use, or drivers don't work with this program or something along those lines and then nothing. It's like it only wants to use the Katana for input and the Katana for output. It can't be because they're both on USB because that's how I fed signal to the Scarlett. Though, it was handling input and output so maybe because it's 2 different USB devices on separate USB plugs?

I've tried a couple other programs, and I think Reaper was the first one. I hate digital recording, it's the least intuitive thing ever and I hate it, but it is a necessary evil if I want to carry on my Noodle Warz campaign. I couldn't figure out how to record with Reaper and get it to do anything without massive amounts of lag. Cakewalk was much much easier, when it at least worked cuz of my interface.

Have you selected input minitoring?

this

look for the "input echo" button in the same area as the little arm track button on the particular track you see the meter moving on

Button icon looks like little sound waves

See if that does the trick

Doesn't work. Anytime I go to preferences to set audio, when I select Katana as the input, and USB Audio as the output, it conflicts. This time it says Audio Driver Error. The following driver(s) either do not support the current audio format, etc etc etc and it lists Primary (2-Katana). It absolutely will not allow me to have a different USB input device than the USB output device for some reason.

Assuming windows, AI tells me: Windows is not designed to natively use separate USB audio interfaces for input and output in a pro audio/ASIO workflow

Seems crazy that this would be a limitation in the year of our Lord 2025.

If you're connecting the Katana via USB, can't you just route the output back to the Katana speaker?

I kinda figured that's what's happening. Computers from the 60s could put a man on the moon, but a modern computer can't have 2 separate signals going through for uber basic recording.

To be fair, Mac and even Linux can do this with ease... I regularly capture input from my nano cortex while monitoring out of my presonus 26c on Linux.

Windows gonna Windows.
