Noodle Warz! All comers welcome!

You should definitely jump in and try putting a parts guitar together. Strats and teles are pretty easy and there are a million options for them. It’s a slippery slope though bro.

Even though I was born in the 80s I was the typical classic rock purist when I was younger. AC/DC and ZZTop or gtfo. Megadeth was about as heavy as I went.

Then I started dating a girl who played bass in some death metal bands and I went down that rabbit hole. It was so much fun to play live but less fun to me now that I’m lame and only jam in the basement lol.

Ain’t nothing wrong with Madison square basement man!

Do you have any reccomendations for good places to source parts on the cheap?

I think at this point anyone with a cnc machine can make a decent guitar body. So unless I really have something particular in mind, I just search reverb or eBay for guitar bodies until I see something interesting. Unfinished is usually way cheaper if you don’t mind. Tonebomb has some cool stuff. I’ve gotten a few cheapos from guitar fetish too that were perfectly fine.

Necks are tricky because anything cheap will probably have crummy fretwork, which is super discouraging after all the work of putting one together.
But used Warmoth necks are plentiful and have a good reputation. I’ve gotten a couple from ParkLane too that were really nice.

Very helpful I’m going to add these names to my list and keep an eye out. It’s all about finding a deal on the used market these days for me, otherwise the pricing these days is nuts for my wallet 😅

Another thing I learned the hard way is that tele necks typically only fit on tele bodies, but stray necks fit most anything that bolts on.

So if you were to invest a little bit, a strat neck will probably fit in all kinds of projects down the road.

Very good to know, I’m not touching tele necks…anything tele just does not work for me, I don’t even know why lol…I’m not the chosen one is all I can gather 🤣

It's the heel shape that differs on the Strats and Teles. If you really love Tele headstocks, get an aftermarket Tele neck but order it with the Strat heel, then it'll pop into Strat bodies.

Late to this party - lots of vids in these pages I need to go back and check out. But listened to Matt's original post. Matt - some really nice playing in there! You are right - the tone through that Katana is surprisingly good. Nice melodies - nice chops. I'd never heard any clips of your playing before and that was solid. Now I need to go back and listen to everyone else.

Ah I appreciate that brother. It's fun to jam on and get some cool sounds for practicing, but I don't really think it records that great, at least in my limited experience.

Feel free to take the backing track and jam over it and upload some stuff. It's always cool seeing how different guitar players interpret what sounds best over a given track.

We could start our own Jaren Dinesian Shred Collab and trade it amongst ourselves lol
