Some clips of some Randall MTS modules I modded...

Hey! Some of those modules sound GREAT....I had no idea you had a business doing that. I'd like to talk to you at some point about a few things. I'll shoot you a pm.

J

thanks man. I do a lot of them... need to get better clips put up there.

The Randall MTS line is great! I went MTS awhile ago and don't regret it one bit. The modules sound good, some of them very good stock, but even better after getting modded. Dave Friedman mods the modules as well as Pete - stratotone. Both do very good work, Pete has some mods and extra additions that go above and beyond such as adding switches and kewl stuff, and people really seem to love his work.

I have a modded SL+ by dave and it is great as well. The SL+ is supposed to be that, modded marshall, though stock its a little bit fizzy, I think the Mr Scary Module does this very well, possibly the KH2 also gets into this teritory.

Dave Friedman is here on the site on the manufactuers forum. You should ask him, he is the authority on the Randall Modules along with the Eganter boys.

You haven't really heard the SL+ until it's had the JCM800 voicing mod and Pete's clarity work on it :D

There are a ton of options for hot marshall tones in the MTS range though...in fact most of the modules have a higher amount of gain than the amp they are modelling...

JTM
Plexi
SL+

Signature modules:

Brahma (a better Plexi)
Mr Scary

then if you think single channel Egnater...

EG3 or 4
SL2

My favorite MTS module in my shop here has always been the SL+. I think the thing sounds killer, even stock. I also have the Brahma that was the prototype for the NAMM show when they first announced it. It doesn't even look like a factory built module. It sounds excellent and with a TS-9 or SD-1 pushing it, it just smokes.

I sell the modules if anybody needs them.

Any know issues (reliabilty wise) with the heads?

I own two RM100s, an RM50, two RM20s, an RM4 and RT 2/50. The only issue I've had is on one of the RM100s one of the standby spade connectors came off of the switch.

Overall, the RM50s seem to be the most bulletproof of them all, and I prefer the tone of the RM50 a hair over the 100s. Only bad thing is, there are only two modules you can use at a time vs three in the RM100. Other bad thing about the RM100 is that they weigh a freakin' TON.

+1 MTS
I had the RM50 combo and went to the RM100 because I wanted the extra channel.
Brahma boosted vs. Scary is tough for me. Both great.

I really need to get an SL though as well.

I've bought modules from Curt (Chubtone), good to deal with. Plus Jay and he from Squid have tried or own probably every module.

+1000 on the BRAHMA module...i had mine modded,by dave "brown eye" friedman,to exact Lynch specs and this module just SMOKES for hot-rodded marshall tone!!! i mean friggin great!!! i've been spoiled,by having this module, because i've sold off many great marshall-toned amps(i.e. Soldano's,Splawns,etc...) solely due to the fact that the friedman-modded BRAHMA easily sounded within 90% as good as these bigger-name amps, but for a fraction of the cost.a $250 mts module(with a $100 friedman mod) played through a $400 head doing a very close "tone" of a 2k and higher amp is a hell of a thing,imo... i've got the 50-watt MTS head and,so far,it and the modules have given me NO troubles  ..........definately a great "bang-for-your-buck" amp, with the right modules.
