Hum canceling single coil neck pickup thread

The 69 is my fave single coil, noiseless or not.

I like a neck single to retain some bite ( humbuckers are simply too smooth in the neck ) and the 69 is his best all rounder.

I have Suhr singles, and a few other Kinmans and the 69 is his crown jewel.

Does it have enough output to keep up with a hot bridge humbucker?

I have Duncan Quarter Pounders in guitars with hot bridge pickups. Nothing else I've tried can keep up.

No it's not, it's a true (hot) single coil

No it's not, it's a true (hot) single coil

And it lacks the clean Strat tones that you're looking for...it's much fatter sounding

According to a person I spoke to at SD the QP is almost a P90

DiMarzio Area 61 or the Injector. The good thing about the Area 61 is it's very stratty but for high gain you can step on an OD pedal for more umph and since it's dead silent it works well with high gain.

Cool. I guess I'm still a little curious about SD Hotrails. It's been years since I played a guitar with them. I remember the sustain being really good but can't remember their tonal characteristics.

can't remember exactly what I put in the bridge position, but it has a nice sound in my opinion

Cool pickup but no real Strat tones to be had there

My favorite of the Dimarzio was the Chopper. Great pickup. I would have liked to try the Kinman but the Chopper did it for me in the particular guitar I wanted one in. I went through quite a few listed by Dimarzio.

duncan hot stack strat neck or a duckbucker.

both are GREAT strat sound pickups split, and sound great full blast!

the duckbucker is a bit more....glassy and quacky for lack of better....
i love the hot stack...i put the hot stack neck into the middle position of my guitars.

I think you meant the HS3. I think that kind of stacked magnet design is the only way to get the Strat sound from a humbuckign pickup.

I have an older set of Kinman AvN Blues in my strat; awesome pickups! A little fatter than what most would probably consider vintagey, a tad more output perhaps as well. Sound great both clean and under gain though! Also, from a hum perspective, completely silent.

I think you meant the HS3. I think that kind of stacked magnet design is the only way to get the Strat sound from a humbuckign pickup.

I prefer the HS-2 because it has a bit more treble which is better for the neck position...

No, it isn't. I only use hum cancelling in the bridge position I've never found a hum cancelling pickup I like in the neck position. I prefer real singles there. Like I said I prefer whatever they put in American Standards. I've tried others but always go back to the stock neck pickups.
