I love Duncan JB's and was looking at maybe a JB V but was thinking of maybe trying out some others to review. Any suggestions?

I love the Motor City 2nd Degree Black Belts in my Edwards.
Obviously more expensive than a JB, but man do they sound good!

Have you checked out the pickup shootout thread? I would start there....

Absolutely. James tested out lots of good options for a Les Paul.

For the heavy stuff: BKP Painkiller/Warpig, MCP Solution/Nuke, WCR Ironman
More versatile: MCP Afwayu/2nd degree blackbelt, WCR Godwood/Darkburst, BKP RebelYell/Coldsweat

+1 on the MCP 2nd degree blackbelt, I've got one in a lesPaul and it does clean to scream with clarity and harmonics. Super-great tone all-around.

Not a fan of the JB in a paul...

That James Lugo shootout was killer. I'm sure you'll be able to find something you love in there.

I recently put a Dimarzio Evolution in a LP copy and was pleasantly surprised! I've heard such mixed reviews about this pup, and usually hate ceramics, but it kicks ass in there through my recto!

What kind of tone are you going for? Without knowing that it is hard to give you some suggestions but as an owner of several LPC's I have had a bunch of pups in them over the years so maybe I can help a bit. I have owned or tried the following pups in my guitars:

Duncan Custom - nice medium output. Hot PAF with a tad more bite due to the Ceramic magnet. I really like that pup.
BKP Nailbomb - about the same output as a JB but is more balanced tonally. Think a hifi version of a JB.
MCP Solution - very high output, extremely tight bass. Kind of like an EMG but with more character and no sterility at all.
MCP Hell Baby - high output very smooth sound. Sweet top end and softer bass due to Alnico II magnet.

my fav pu for a lester are

sd alnico II pro
duncan distortion
sd pearly gates
gibson burstbucker 3
gibson 57 classic
suhr aldrich

those were my favs over the years.

For metal I love the 500T or EMG 81. Dimarzio SD for sabbath/stoner metal. Other styles...don't know. :)

I threw a JB in my old Goth and it killed the stock pups. Though its not a LP, my PRS McCarty has MCP Afwayu's in it. Huge sounding.

I have 3 favorites in a Paul.

BKP Stormy Mondays
BKP Rebel Yells
Suhr Aldrich

Both are amazing pickups for sure. The BKP Stormy Mondays are my favorite low-output pickup. The BKP Rebel Yells are my favorite "mid-output" pickup...the Suhr Aldrich is my favorite "high-output" pickup.

I have the Stormy Mondays in my Warmoth L5S (similar to a 335) semi-hollow body. I have the BKP Rebel Yells in a all mahogany Warmoth VIP (similar to a PRS). I am putting the Aldrich pickups in my EBMM Axis Super Sport.

gibson classic 57 +/57 is just right in my standards.
I have Suhr Aldrich in a custom and they are OK. I'd like to try some Rio BBQ in that custom though.
I'd like to try the Godwoods as well.
I had the BB2&3 in a non reverse firebird. The BB3 was pretty good. The 2 was great in the neck position.

2nd degree blackbelt

I've tried a ton of different pups in LP's over the years, and nothing even comes close to the 2nd deg bb IMO

Anyone know of a used set of Black Belts floating around?

FWIW, make sure you get the 2nd degree BB's. they have a bit more bite than the regular Black Belt's do...

Not to derail but how do the 2nd degrees differ in tone and output from the Godwood? I have the Godwood/Crossroads in my R8 and WB Firewater +'s in my Traditional.
