 As the tittle says, I'm in need of a set of humbuckers for my older Japanese Jackson DK2M. Here's the deal, she has Maple Neck/Fretboard with an Alder body, which makes her uncontrollably bright.

Right now I have EMG 81/85 in there (yes, 81 in the neck and 85 in the bridge, for some reason this tamed the brightness a bit, along with down-tuning it to Drop-D). I spoke to Rick from EMG and he suggested adding another cap in there, and I plan on doing that soon. But it never hurts to ask, right?

So, what I'm basically looking for is a humbucker that's WARM, tight, aggressive, yet that retains clarity. High output is a HUGE plus.

If it's any help, I like Seymour Duncan a LOT, and wouldn't mind DiMarzios.

Thanks!

I have a Duncan Distortion in my old ESP which is maple neck and board and alder body and it sounds bad ass!

weren't they too bright? those are trebly as hell

I had a set of distortions on a cheapass dean I had, but I hated them lol, I'll take them in consideration tho

Have you tried the new het set? Good stuff!

I guess it isn't considered a "high output" humbucker but I love Tom Anderson's pickups. An H2 in the bridge, I haven't heard a guitar it doesn't sound good in. Definitely a safe bet. Other than that, for high output humbuckers-Bareknuckle stuff, can't go wrong there either.

Don't factor out lower output pups. I was a long time emg/blackout user that switched to sh6, and then sh4, which seems to me to have more output than it seems on paper...
Just got a pickup from another forumite that has almost half the dc resistance of the distortion and it just friggin rips.!
What kind of amp are you using? I didn't feel the duncan distortion as being brighter than the 85 or 81.. I understand you having a bright guitar. I had an old ibanez 540 that nothing sounded good in til I used a dimarzio superIII, then it sounded killer.

For a bright guitar I would try the DiMarzio Tone Zone or Super 3...

I had the same problem. My guitar is all treble.. no mids and no bass.
THIN and lifeless. The pickup that solved this problem was the Motor City afwayu in the bridge and Dimarzio air norton in the neck.

Same problem with my Jackson Soloist. Bareknuckle Holy Diver set is perfect for that.

Duncan Custom Custom, Rio Grande BBQ or MCP Afwayu's. The Afwayu's are my personal favorite.

I just put a proto of Motor City's Hot Heads into the bridge of my Les Paul and it just kicks ass. This coming from a former EMG/Blackout user. I used actives from 1987-2010/11, I still have them in a few guitars but this HH is just wicked.

I have some more on the way.

You have any more info on these? I have a Detroiter set in my LP and an Afwayu set in my Hamer, and really like both. Detroiter's are more evenly eq'd than the Afwayu's, which have massive low's/low-mid's.

I agree and also suggest the Tone Zone. Great candidate for what you're asking. Haven't tried the Super 3.
Another PU that is even warmer than the Tone Zone, but with great definition and with plenty of balls is the Fender EVH, same one from the EVH Wolfgang(not the EVH Frankenstrat PU).
Cheers

Marginally hotter than the Afwayu, and more open. More even frequency response with no humps. I love it. Lots of nice stuff surrounding the single notes.

I was thinking Air Norton / Tone Zone or a set of The Breed

However, I'll also look into all the other suggestions.
Thanks guys
