Humidity and Wizard necks = FAIL!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I noticed with my JEM on the free floating trem, when it got real hot, the springs would loosen a little and the bridge would not be sitting level, so I kept the back plate off and a phillips screw driver handy to keep it right.

Heat, humidity, stage-lights, sweat.... BOO!

Screws guitars of every ilk. When I get sweaty I have a hell of a time operating the PU selector on my PRS (shitty design)...even the d-tuna, and drop-d thingy on my ZR-trem are a bitch to grab.

Not to mention the tuning issues. And watching your hardware corrode before your eyes.

Did tightening the truss rod not help at all? I've seen temperatures climb while playing a gig, and usually the first indicator is that I start to go a little flat. With the Wolfgangs I keep the little pin wrench dealio handy, and a just like 1/8 to 1/6 turn usually brinks the relief back flat and sharpens the guitar tune overall. Check the relief in between songs or whatever, if it starts getting a little large, just crank the truss rod nut a little......Opposite is true when playing outside in colder climes and the sun goes down, and the wind starts blowing and it gets coooold....loosen the nut a little.

It was just a jam :) I have the guitar back in the basement and will check it out tonight to see if I have to crack it a tad or if it has moved back. Part of the problem is that we do some punk for fun like the Misfits and Iggy so I am not being too polite with the guitar

Don't be a pussy, raise your action!! :gethim:

+1. I used to use really low action, but got tired of the metalic overtones in the tone. I keep all my guitars at 1/16" straight across and love the clarity and sustain.

I DEFINITELY have that problem... ALL the time
Stupid ibanez....
I was playing a show in front of 3000 people last week and i had to change guitars 3 times!!
Thank goodness for my trusty old strat!
Im definitely moving to PRS i think. #1 I think im getting sponsored and #2 they have quality stuff. Its all about reliability at the end of the night

My CU22 is def. my most trusty stage guitar. Aside from the switch.

That day I dont think any guitar would have held up, even the poly entombed 80s Kramers :D If I go through this again I am bringing the Hamer, that neck would probably make it.

good know the ones with aanj and bubinga stripe aren't as prone to this

my rg517 has the super wizard

He just said his reissued 550 w/ the super reinforced neck (i.e. one that's supposed to be stronger than yours), was fucking up.

No more shooting videos underwater in the hot tub, mister!!

I cant believe it, that neck has never moved but it was fucking swamp ass and the sweat was rolling. If my action was higher I would not have had as many problems I am thinking.

Bet one of those POS CS fenders would've been fine

I have no doubt most on RT would think my action is too high though so its apples and oranges, obv ;)

Sorry bro - if there's no air conditioning there's no jam as far as I'm concerned so I've never had that problem. I haven't played an outdoor gig since '89 and I'll probably never play another one.
I thought I was the only one who did that all mine are climate controlled to. I have a rg prestige 3120tw from 2000 never seen that problem just like the man said no ac no play I keep a cheap schecter for that.

I played a gig once at 3am (outdoor weekend long 4th of July party... was on the back of a trailer, generators, crazy) and it was so nasty that it looked like the drummer was evaporating... there was a fine film of water on EVERYTHING - cymbals, amp heads, guitars, etc.

I was playing my main floyd guitar - a beat up late 80s ESP M-II Deluxe that I stripped the finish off the neck and then used boiled linseed oil on. It was rock solid. Also used a '91 PRS custom 24 that did fine, and a Charvel San Dimas 'reissue' strat from '95. No problems, but my strings were nasty by the end of the show and I spent hours on each guitar cleaning them afterwards.

My bands typically play a few outdoor gigs, I like em! But I try to have my stuff set up at least a few hours before the gig so they can get funky THEN and I can bring em back with the truss rod if necessary. The most stable guitar I have right now is my EJ strat - quartersawn neck with a finish on it, I've never had to adjust it once since I bought it.

Pete

Played yesterday with the jam band for 2 1/2 hours and my guitar at the end was unplayable due to the humidity and sweat as the neck was just moving everywhere

Anyone else have a guitar go so far south while playing???? Freaking blows that is for sure.

I'm not sure if my 1077XL has a wizard neck, but it's been holding steady in the basement now that the Summer has gotten in full swing...haven't taken it out of the basement in quite awhile though :)

My guitars are in the basement as well and they hold well, even the raw necks.

It took me an hour to clean that guitar, I should have taken a picture of it after the jam :scared:
For the first few years necks tend to be screwey.....it takes awhile before they forget they were trees :) Both my Ibanez Prestige gtrs were solid as heck. For my stage guitars, i set them up alittle more towards medium, so that in case anything does change it's not a big deal.

Just pulled it out of the case to really wipe down the Edge and the action is right back where it started and is playing great now. I guess it was just taking it out to a real soupy enviroment for the first time  There is not much room for play as the strings are slammed, these new Re-issue necks can hold some real low action.

One of my prestige 7 string necks has never been adjusted, no kidding not one 1/4 turn of the rod. I love the 5 piece construction.

Yeah both my RG 1820X and 121 both had those necks and were really stable. Only had to adjust them a little bit while I had them...pretty easy playing guitars too!
