I have a hurricane les paul custom
it sounds pretty close to my 1973 real gibson
moridaira/morris made some cheaper crappy models under the morris brand, but the hurricane line was pretty solid, as well as the hs anderson and bill lawrence lines
in fact, the hurricane les pauls, teles and strats are identical to the ones the made for bill lawrence back in the late 80's/early 90's
they also made semi-acoustics for fender japan
my ex-bandmate also had a hurricane lp standard and it was a great guitar
never played their fender models, though, but I know some guy that owns one and loves it
just run from some equinox and other original models
those are the cheaper made ones, with weird bridges
think them as equivalent to mid level burnies, mij aria pro II, grecos and other common japanese copies
just not as well made as some higher end series, like the greco super real or burny super grade
but they're definitely way above epiphones and sound just as good as an edwards
stock hardware is all gotoh
didn't like the stock bridge pickup, but the neck was quite good
when they were still sold here in brazil, back in mid 90's, they used to cost almost as much as a new gibson les paul studio (and Gibsons are expensive as fuck here)
today a used hurricane les paul is worth over $1300 here
the gibson/fender models weren't sold in the US for obvious legal reasons
even the grecos/orvilles and others only got famous about 6 years ago
nobody gave a shit about japanese copies and all of them were about $200-$350 on ebay
