Hi everyone. Well the title pretty much sums it up. I just purchased a 2-3 year old splawn quickrod from a fantastic member here. And having never owned one. I would love to get some insight , they sound awesome from the clips I’ve seen and I’m not talking just for hard core metal. A wide range of things .. but more importantly a amp I can make MY tone with !! thanks fellow members

Twiddle some knobs, get some sounds

Go chase a taco truck , jit bag Give a dumb response , get a dumb reply. Ha. Ha

Don't look at the knobs when dialing in your sound. Just use your ears. Splawns do well with unconventional settings.

I played mine with treble at 0 or barely cracked. So ChurchHill's advice is spot on IMHO. Damn the QR is one awesome amp

Thanks for the replies. , I didn’t word the initial post well enough to what I would like info on. I am curious from those who have had one , what speakers , how they liked the loop , has the voicing changed over the production.. etc .. ?? Just wanted to gain a overall better undersranding of the amp and people’s experiences with them .. I also have seen. Some come with a 3 button foot switch. While newer come with a 4 button ..

I've had great luck with many different speakers. Heritage Greenbacks, Creamback M65, Heritage G12-65, V30s, even T75s. Personally, I like the G12-65s best, but the Heritage Greenbacks and the M65 are really nice, too.

Haven't ever used the look in mine, so I can't help you with that. My Competition is the only Splawn I've owned and it's an older one. Based on what I've heard, the older ones sounded great. Then they added some options, but the overall effect seems to be a loss of some of the raw edginess they're known for. The new ones are supposed to be really good, having brought more of the old sound back while retaining all the options. Someone else will be able to give you a better historical perspective.

Thanks for all the great info Churchill.
I have a cab loaded with the old British v30’s I’m going to try it with , so I’ll see how it goes. If not , I think I’ll go Scott’s route with the creambacks. Maybe even mix em up. , I’m looking forward to the amp. You and others have talked highly of your splawn amps .. thanks man

I've had 4 QR's. They were the older ones.I think the newest was a 2011 or so .I haven't had one in years .
I'm actually looking to maybe get another one .
Like I said the old ones are all I had so I can't speak for the new ones. They are very tight unforgiving amps, some people hate that but I liked it . It left no room for slop. The biggest complaint about them is they have a big mid hump so they don't pair well with V30's . I personally don't like v 30's anyway .
I spent most of my time on gear one with the gain maxed .

hope you enjoy it . if not hit me up I may be looking for one soon.

Killer amps. I own an early 2005 model. It is definitely an amp that will let you know when you don't bring your A game. That said, I think it has made me a better player. It will go from EVH to Lynch to heavy. Turn the gain down and it will even do stones or joe walsh type tones..

Well I can’t give any good specifics with the QR, but had a Nitro once. As with any amp, I’d start with everything at noon, make small adjustments and play a few minutes between each adjustment. Just stop when you get “your” sound.
