Almost. I've had a long standing love/hate with Recto's. I've never owned one and often times plugged into them at stores and thought they sounded terrible. A few friends have owned some good one's like the Tremoverb or older Black face one's and those one's were killer. So I plugged into a newer Triple Recto at GC and it's been maked down to $999. It sounded killer, tons of gain and I was able to get it tight with some tweaking. But all of a sudden the bass vanished on channel 3. Channel 2 still sounded good but the 3rd channel sounded like an AM radio. Too bad because it's a good price and sounded good.....when it worked.

I just picked one up last weekend. The Modern setting is pretty terrible still. Vintage is useable so far.

I now know the endtimes are upon us!

Played a Roadking a few years back that was smoking!

They had a Roadster but the Triple smoked it. I imagine it would have sounded even better with an OD pedal. Too bad it crapped out.

Common sign of going tubes man. You should have grabbed it

Love my Tremoverb. It just has this sinister mid voicing that is super warm and tight.

Love my Triple.
Love the modern voice on channel 3 too. It's huge.

Channel 2 vintage mode is where the shred lives. So do I!

I may go back and tell them to fix it......well it's GC! They may blow it up.

That is a good deal on that amp for sure.

yeah....tell them toss in a new set of tubes and you will snag it. :D

Regardless, Mesa has a warranty you could use to get it back to new.

I want to get an older 2 channel triple

I liked having the extra middle channel and the 50 watt setting, it was LOUD on 150 watts. It really smoked the Roadster they had. This was in Springfield but I think they have some in Totawa. Considering they sold for 2K new, half off is a good deal.

I just picked up a Triple a few weeks back and am love it. Very LOUD. I also didn't like the Roadster. Too dark and dull. The 3 channel triples (never played a 2 channel) absolutely rip. Blew the Roadster away.

I prefer the multi watt Triple more than my old Roadster. The volume taper on the multi watt seems more gradual compared to my old 2 channel Triple as well. I actually like the 150 watt setting at lower volumes better than the 50 watt set a little louder.

If I couldn't get a Triple I would get a Roadking II head.

  Yep I think so.

I had been needing something modern for awhile. Worked out a trade deal local for it. I'll keep it around awhile and see if it does what I need / want it to do. Tracked alittle with it over the weekend. Mixed it with my Wizard head and doesnt sound too bad. Still can't get the hang of the Modern setting....it just sounds terrible.

The RK2 is still the best rectifier I've played. Running 6L6 and EL34s together sounds sooo friggin good, the RK cabs are great and the loop is good. Awesome amps!

Modern setting:

- Silicon diodes
- Gain at no more than 11:00
- Mids 2:00
- Bass 10:00 (or adjust to taste)
- Presence on zero, adjust treble to taste
- SD1 or another TS pedal as a CLEAN boost. tightens it up great...

Thanks for the tips. The Vintage mode was pretty easy to dial in. It was set on Spongy when I got it, so that had to get moved right away. :)

The Gain I didnt try it that low....about 2:00 area mostly.
Bass is almost off.....Presence and Treble about 2:00

I'll have to revisit that channel / setting again. Changed out the pre tubes, they may have been the originals...its a 2002.

Presence on a Recto is EXTREMELY harsh...I never used it on the Modern mode. The gain gets out of control at 12:00 or higher IMO.

On this one the third channel's presence doesnt do alot until it gets past 2:00. Then all of a sudden its a BIG jump. The gain seemed lower than I expected. Thought the preamp tubes might have been tired. I'll give it another go this afternoon.
