Presence on a Recto is EXTREMELY harsh...I never used it on the Modern mode. The gain gets out of control at 12:00 or higher IMO.
On this one the third channel's presence doesnt do alot until it gets past 2:00. Then all of a sudden its a BIG jump. The gain seemed lower than I expected. Thought the preamp tubes might have been tired. I'll give it another go this afternoon.

yup...definitely check the tubes.

Sounds like a channel 2 presence pot taper was swapped into channel 3, or your channel 3 presence pot may need to be replaced (unless you like it like that). It's supposed to come on strong and fast. Swapping the pot is easy with these amps I would get a replacement just so you know either way.

Actually you can check the pot number and see if it matches the number the amps are supposed to ship with...

The pot codes are in the manual pdf.

I miss my Trem-O-Verb bad these days. I need to pick another one up one of these days.

Gigged a Trem-O-Verb for about 5 years in the 90's and it was a great amp and I wasn't a fan of the other Rectifiers... my friend played a early 90's Triple. I called them Raspifires referring to the fuzzy tone. The Trem-O-Verb didn't sound that way to me at all.

I run Modern on my Single like this...

Gain 1-2, depending on volume. the louder i go, i back it off. but for lower volumes around 1:30-2 is ok.
treble 1 o'clock
Mids 11-11:30
Bass 11
Presence 11-12...any lower and things seem dull. any higher and it hurts...higher volumes = lower settings though.
Master...if im just jamming out myself, i run it wherever. in a band practice setting it would be around 11 or so.
Output...as loud as i need.

I would check your tubes if they are that old. It really made a huge difference for me. Then again, Modern isnt for everybody im sure!

Good point...I forgot about the output/master. I matched the output up with the gain setting and master to taste.

I really like the triple rectifier, even more than the dual. I picked up a reborn trec about 2 years ago, and it's been one of the best sounding rectos I've owned. I really like the added options and eq tweaks. Has a great feel, a great grind, and the signature recto sound.

I have an older 2-channel blackface Triple. Nothing sounds as beastly as that amp!

Well I bought the thing. But it still has an issue with channel 3, the bass and mid controls don't do anything but the other channels work fine. I was able to get it cheap, for a new multi watt Triple I couldn't pass it up. I have it on a Bogner 4x12 and boosted it with a Bad Monkey and needless to say it sounds fucking killer! I'm going to just laugh at those who trash Recto's from now on, I was one of those poeple  For heavy stuff this thing is IT.

So...any ideas about channel 3 before I take it to a tech? I moved the preamp tubes around and reseated them but no dice.

These things have a 5 year transferrable warranty, I would check with Mesa what they can do for you. They've been awesome when I contacted them in the past.

hey, i bashed Rectos at one time too. then one day, when i needed an amp because i was starting a new band, i decided to bite the bullet and try one out. it took me a while to gel with it, but now i love the thing to death. i was so used to 5150s and i thought the Recto would be similar, gain wise. and while it does have a lot of gain, its much less compressed, less saturated, and doesnt cover mistakes as easily, so i really have to work to get my chops up. but it sounds so awesome i dont care...and cranking it up really wakes it up.

no ideas about the third channel...have you tried looking inside to see if theres a lose wire or something? other than that, it should be under warranty and Mesa should take care of it, no?

If the mids and lows do nothing the first thing that comes to mind is bad solder joint. But mesa was great help when I needed to get information on my Tverb when all of that shit hit the fan.

Call them up and see what they can do for you. Keep the receipt for sure. However, with mesa and guitar center having a fallout I am not sure what GC will do for you in that regard - hence the reason for the blowout.

Congrats on the mesa man. I was once a mesa hater and they fucking scream

GC won't help with the warranty, but it is covered. You'll just have to work through Mesa directly. HNAD!

Congrats Dan, Mesa honors the 5 year warranty from the GC left over stock. Register online and get a warranty repair if necessary. They might be able to steer you in a direction of troubleshooting as well.

I really like the multi-watt update as well, the changes are subtle but all good updates imo.

I just picked one up last weekend. The Modern setting is pretty terrible still. Vintage is useable so far.

I now know the endtimes are upon us!
Dude! Are you ok?

Thanks. They had a 3 channel dual but not the multi watt version that I was A/Bing the triple with using 2nd channels only. I thought they were close but maybe the multi Triple was a little brighter. The 3 channel Dual is going for $799 which is a killer deal! But no footswitch.

You know I played mark series for years but I checked out a V the other day and.....I don't know, they just don't do it for me. There's a thin or hollow feel to them. I still like the IV but R2 kinda blows and the older Mark III's are just not versatile enough but great for straight up gain.

I am surprised but glad you found a cool amp.

Try reaching out to Mike B. Perhaps he can help diagnose the issue. Would love to hear a clip of you playing through a Recto.

I have it on a Bogner 4x12 and that cab just sounds sweet and the amp can be tweaked to sound good for a lot of styles. Sure it won't do VH tones but I don't care much about sounding like VH, even though I like that tone a lot. The Bad Monkey tightens it up even more.

Is this multi-watt Recto the same thing as the 'reborn' series ?
