Yes, I admit it.

I could even add "low to mid gain addict".

I respect those who dig the high gain amps and stuff, but since I got my Express 5:50, I am asking myself why did I ever consider playing with LESS gain before that?

I find myself using the crunch more than anything. I like it dirty, slobby, and I'm not sorry about it. Some might say I am an old fart - you're probably right - but the more I play, the less gain I use, and I can rock hard anyway. Groove, dude, groove.

Y'all have a nice friday. It's not a rant, it's a statement.

Im with you Brother. I want the sound of rock, not the sound of 1,000 angry Japanese hornets in an all out battle royal with the neighboring town of bumble bees. I want teh rock, I want teh rock.

I like a nice ballsy UNCOMPRESSED rock tone where you can hear the notes ring out.

There ya go, exactly what I mean.

I have high gain amps and I use mid-gain most of the time. I do not like real clean cleans or high gain for most of the things I do. Dynamics are part of my sound. chugga chugga

+100000000000000000000000000000000000000

That's right.

The worst sound to me is super high gain and zero midrange.

I like to have an assortment. Have the Einstein for the super clean and the high gain and the TT for the mid-gain stuff. Works very well IMO.

I actaully love both and I think its more about the tone and freequencies then the amount of gain used. Ive heard amazing fat tones comming from a mid gain amp and amazing fat tones from a super saturated amp. I think both can be used very successfully.
I think bands like killswitch would sound like hammered shit through a mid gained amp given there style. Like I said, depends on the application.

So you're saying killswitch would sound the same if they played through mid-gain amps?

Im in the mid gain camp, too. Sorta high gain for solos and never completely clean.

I would strongly reccomend seeking out a Suhr Badger

You'll shit when you hear how good that little bastard sounds in the on the edge to just slightly crunchy dept. The Power Scaling is pretty much Genius too

my whole rule of thumb is I like to keep where your hands and ability to use the volumes knob on your guitar effectively are determining the amount of gain u need for certain things...its a feel and sound thing, and if i feel like there is too much soup to control, I level it off to a point where notes can be felt and heard with individualism and clarity.

How many of you can actually play blistering runs on an acoustic without thinking and go to a saturated ampliflier and feel the same vibe?

not me..!~

I feel the same about gain, I like just enough, rather than more than enough.
But I find I can play just as fast and as clean with a nice clean electric sound as I can with an overdrive sound....gain just brings on the nice long sustain. ;)

High gain can sound great, but its a fine line. I think its much easier to get a mid gain sound that fits in the mix and sounds natural than a really high gain one. I think generally people use way more gain than is necessary when playing covers too. Even most metal rhythm guitar tones are double if not quadruple tracked with less gain than the overall effect implies. I tend to use clean and crunch sounds the majority of the time, with some higher gain leads. A good crunch sound and knowing how to use your volume/tone knobs will cover just about anything, IMO. Then again, my main amp does have 3 channels,

I'm not a big fan of using primarily preamp distortion. I don't particularly enjoy any sort of tone without pushing the power amp and speakers. Whether the end result I get is low, mid, or high gain depends on how you want to look at it.
