So I bought a Rev F dual rectifier and it sounds sooo good my friend who has a repair shop and a collecter/gear head
compared it to his SLO and man do they sound close and both sound awesome wish I would have bought a Rev F sooner

Honestly I was shocked that it sounded that good without a boost too!!! Considering how good the rack mount rectifier sounded I didn't think I'd ever get that close to that tone again this amp is great addition to the collection I want a second lol the hell with the Mark Five I'm going to try to make clips for you guys : )

My '92 Rev F Orange Hi Gain channel is just awesome! EP boost in front for the woodiest, juiciest, organic overdrive dripping tone.

Honestly, it's so good, I've never even tried the Red channel. I guess maybe I should?

My friend and I went in on a Revision F rackmount, lets say I found it dirt cheap and in order not to sell it I asked my friend to go half so he could stop my insanity of selling it later on. I have owned a Rev F rackmount once before and kicked myself in the ass for selling it....

I have also owned DR R0005 (Rev C) which basically sounded even closer to a slo then the Rev F. I also owned R0394 or somewhere around that S/N which was a Rev D but Rev F is my favorite, and yes orange Channel is oh my god good....

Breakdown of what I have owned in the early 2 channel rectos
Rev C very bright and as close to a slo as you can get
Rev D Darker then any of the other 2 channel rectos I have owned, not sure if it was just mine or they are all like that. Also close to a slo
Rev F is a nice mix between the Rev C and Rev G

I have owned many 2 channel rectos, including about 4 rackmount Rev G's, all the Rev G's I owned where very consistant in tone, I never really heard a difference between the rackmount version and the head version like some people claim and I have done side by side comparison.

It really depends on the tone you are going for, the orignal 2 channel recto's where designed for Hair metal so the first few revisions where taylored towards that music. As Grunge came in the Rev G was the final as it was darker and looser then all the previous which is what that style of music called for.

The 3 channel recto's came about due to 7 string nu-metal and metal in general and got more treble and a bit tighter and as people say more fizzy. The recto reborns once again changed for the current music that uses them and they are tighter with not as much bottom end and less fizzy then the previous 3 channels. The reborns are closer to the 2 channel versions but still not close to being there.

So if you want a more organic/warmer tone get yourself a 2 channel, if you want more of a modern metal tone go with either of the 3 channels, and if you get them cranked enough the fizz does go away. I will not get started on the roadkings, roadsters or tremoverbs as they all have there own voicing going on while still retaining the basic recto tone.

Oh please do get started on the Roadster Roadking stuff and tremoverb I'm really curious I've been considering the Roadster for a while but never heard it without EMGs so i have no idea what it really sounds like

Roadster is a dark amp, I really do not care for it, I think if you are a single guitarist band or both guitarist in the band both play them you will be fine, but I think they would get buried by another amp or have your settings where you are not use to it.

The roadking V1 is the only one I have experience with and still currently own, to me they are kind of a mix between a dual and a tremoverb, bit more upper mids but not as much as the tremoverb. Overall very pleasing amp.

Tin ears say wot? If you can't hear the drastic difference between an SLO and a Recto or Peavey of any era, then save your money and buy the Recto or Peavey. By comparison, the SLO is in a league of its own if you can tickle strings and still have any sort of hearing... oh yeah and .. just to keep it sorta pc... this is all just my opinion .... to each his own of course..

Sorry guys the recto isn't an SLO no matter how you slice it. And the 5150?? Please...these are good amps in their own right but no way do they cop an SLO tone. All you gotta do is turn up the SLO and it shows you why it is one of the legends...I've heard rectos sound very good, but very different from an SLO. I've heard most 5150s sound decent but fizzy to me, not my thing. I get they are based on an SLO but to me...MAJOR difference. IMO.

I haven't had an SLO yet, but from all the clips I've heard, it sounds pretty different compared to any recto I've heard/played.

Anyway, rev F's are great. They sound almost identical to a rev C/D IMHO and come at 1/2 the cost. You got a good deal on yours. Prices are on the rise for 2ch rectos, especially blackface versions.

This + a billion. I've owned a very nice '94 2-channel Dual Rectifier and an old block letter 5150 when they first came out. I currently own a '92 stock SLO. All three amps are nice in their own right. The Mesa and Soldano blow the Peavey away in regards to build quality. The 2 channel Rectifier is the best Recto I've heard. I can see why people say all three amps sound similar, but when you turn the SLO up past 5, it doesn't just get louder, it kinda changes gears and takes on a deep, complex, 3D tone that the Rectifier can't match. Yes, they sound similar in that they have gobs of thick, modern gain, but the SLO turned up loud just has a complexity in the tone that the DR can't match. I will say that when I played in a metal band, running a Dual Rectifier and a 5150 was a truly wicked metal tone. Again, I could get by with all three of them. I would worry about the Peavey's reliability, which is a huge deal breaker for me concerning amps. The DR, especially the older ones, are very cool amps. The SLO is the king though. It's just in a class out of reach of the other two, IMHO.
